Very true. I'd be avoiding Mexico now. A pity but the gangs are stronger than the government now.

Thousands of Canadians were stuck in their hotels last week because of the violence. It's unlikely that anyone would be caught up in it, but it shouldn't be even a remote possiblity.

I just came back from Cape Town on a 787 Dreamliner with BA.
It was very shabby. A lot of those fancy window blinds were working.Tatty seats and tables.
Needed a refurb.
Usually though they are a nice ride. Not as nice as the A380 though

People said that about Ecuador. We went all over - Quito, the rainforest, Banos, Chimborazo, Cuenca - all lovely places with nice people and we felt safe. Flew out to the Galapagos and then had 24 hours in Guayaquil before the flight home. I picked a hotel on the waterfront, with a nice promenade and easy access for a walk up Santa Ana Hill (very pretty buildings with a lighthouse and nice chapel).

Guayaquil was horrible! The hotel sent a minibus to collect us from the airport. Driving through the city, we noticed there were armed guards on every street corner. We parked at the front door of the hotel and were shepherded from the bus into the hotel by armed security men. Checked in and the lady said to take care walking around and not to carry obvious handbags and be careful using phones to take photos outside etc. as muggings were common. The hotel had a rooftop pool, so we decided to just stay in and chill on the roof instead of exploring. That's the most scared I've ever been on holiday.

Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta are beautiful places to go and have visited these multiple times as it's just a couple of hours flight from here.
Definitely when things settle down mate put them on your bucket list but at the moment my advice for the short term would be to give them a miss.
This last week things have calmed down a bit but would still be very wary of going there.
Don't want to be negative but safety first for you and the family.
Whatever you chose have a great time

Very much depends on the airline. I flew on a 787 with Air Europa and it was dreadful, thankfully just a short hop from Amsterdam to Madrid.
I've also done the Tui Premium cabin on a 787 and while it ain't business class level it does make the journey easier. We've booked for Thailand from Manchester with Tui and the premium cabin was going to be an extra £480 each, each way which just isn't worth it. We've booked exit row seats at £80 each which will do.
Agree about the a380 mind, you hardly know you're flying on one of those. Flew an a350 recently too which was just as good.

That sounds canny, we had to put up with ferry's / water taxi's and it does give a different perspective. I felt that there were similarities to Sunderland and found the majority of the people there to be fine. I seem to recall a rather large anchor at the bottom end of Armada Way, possibly from an aircraft carrier, that was actually forged in Sunderland, funny what you come across.

Aye. The Premium Economy has become very expensive. Almost Business class prices in some cases.
Done exactly what you did for our Cape Town flights. Paid for the exit row. More leg room than Premium Economy especially on the 777 and 787.

What about somewhere in Europe so it's a short flight? What do you like doing on holiday? Beaches, sightseeing, history, hiking etc? Maybe we can come up with somewhere else for you to look at.

Or a cruise, say Scandinavia, the Mediterranean or a river cruise? A bloke I used to work with used to do those regularly.

I like most things, travelled all over. Needs beaches, I like walking I also like lying around in the sun reading good books, nightlife but not too busy (old fart syndrome)
