I now live in Plymouth and would like to go to Mexico. For once me and the other half both agree on the destination. Huge problem, she cant cope with long flights. I have thought about telling her to get the bus, or walk, but my ears couldnt cope with that. So it looks like at least 2 flights each way, I would like to avoid the crazy orange bastards country if possible. Any suggestions? willing to fly from anywhere in the UK

There are safer/better/closer places a couple of hours away.

Mexico is in the midst of a massive gang war with 6/7 murders a day.

Corsica or Sardinia are fabulous in the spring, great food and spectacular scenery.

If you want a real life experience go to India. (8 hrs from Heathrow).
Best place I've been if you like travelling around.
As for the beach. Goa and Kerala have excellent beaches

I can't think of a decent two-leg route avoiding the US. Go via Iceland maybe, but the second leg flight would still be fairly long.

His lass can't cope with long flights is the problem though.

If that's the case it's probably not the best start to a holiday is she's fretting even before it's booked.

Add on 4 hours from Plymouth plus 2 hours check in and that's a lot of pressure before you start.

Personally I'd get the ferry to St Malo, hire a car go through Carcassonne and drive along the length of the Riviera ...

... then dump the car in Nice and fly back to Exeter

Try via Cuba they love socialist

We went to Zihuatanejo on the Pacific side. Apparently not many English people go there but a fair few American, although we didn't see many. Most people spoke English and were great. Beach brilliant. Its the place mentioned and seen in Shawshank Redemption. We took plane from London to Houston, stayed overnight, and then Houston to our destination the next day.

Mexico has a lot of drug cartel violence and a high death rate from firearms these days. Best check here:

Then again I’ve just read the advice for travelling to Chile and it is very similar :emoticon-0104-surpr

Cuba has a US imposed blockade on fuel, it will grind to a halt soon.

Italy is very nice <cheers>

I remember planning a trip to Peru and loads of people advising against it, saying things like it’s full of terrorists and a dangerous place to go.
I went anyway and had a great time. People were really friendly, I went to Lima, Cuzco and Machu Pichu and it is still fresh in my memory over 30 years later.

A few days after I got back, Sendero Luminoso (The shining path) blew up a shopping centre that I’d visited in Lima :emoticon-0104-surpr
