Been watching AFCON since I was in school, always good for comedy as well as the mad football, watched a few matches from this tournament and the teams are much better defensively organised than I used to remember, one match I watch ended 4-4, with one team winning 4-0 until the last 15 minutes, red cards, 40 yard banana shots in off the bar, mental full body launched through the air diving tackles, it always had the lot. Watching this year it feels a lot tamer and more "normal" now, which is a little sad.

Colossal waste of time for Talbi, that. Played a grand total of 17 minutes over the last month in a dead rubber.

At least he'll be well rested, match fitness a bit of a concern, though.

I read about his minutes the other day and was gutted we lost him for so long for him to basically sit on his arse watching his team mates, my second concern was his match sharpness!

You can see in the faces of the AFCON lads how proud they are to represent their country.

I think we have to take care not to patronise their competition or nudge them not to participate.

We wouldn't tell Xhaka it was pointless playing for Switzerland, because they're not likely to win anything, so I think it would be condescending saying the same to Diarra. If we attempted to sign a player, but indicated we wouldn't want them going away with their country, we wouldn't be signing anyone.

Our first love may be Sunderland but for some players and supporters it's England or their own country ...

... we just have to live with that.

Enjoyed the tournament. Plenty of entertainment, especially in the final <laugh>

He's just posted a live video of the squad driving through Senegal in an open top bus.

Very much doubt he'll make the squad on Saturday if he's still not back in the UK yet
That’s fine, nice long rest before returning to the squad against Burnley on the Monday night :emoticon-0148-yes:
