Can we all just take a moment to step away from all the Derby Day hoo-ha to admire our fantastic number 7? He's scored some massively important goals this season, and is looking like a player that could more than handle the Premier League with his technique seeming to improve every time he plays. So I suggest that anybody who is toasting over the Christmas period, do so to Rickie Lambert too The Championship's top scorer by 5 goals! Southampton's Goal Machine
Quite apt that you have posted this, as he reminds me a lot of that guy in your profile picture. Thanks for everything Rickie, and I really do hope that you'll soon be able to show the country what you can do in the top division.
He was so dominant over every player today. He won so many balls today which is something we haven't really seen before this season! Well done to him!
Agreed....and watch out for a cheeky bid come in in January from a certain Mr Pardew He's got Bob Hope !
As the players were walking off the pitch today I saw Lambert have a massive go at Guly, the bloke is so passionate, right from the start you could see how much he wanted to win this game.
For all the negatives that other fans might (wrongly) throw at him (namely either his size, his lack of pace, or the amount of goals his gets from the penalty spot), there is not a single team in the whole league who wouldn't take Lambert tomorrow, if they had the chance. (I guess Bristol City or Portsmouth could be possible exceptions, but that would have absoloutely nothing to do with him as a player, and everything to do with his club history)
He came across really quite hacked off in his post-match interview. Pretty much "I've done my job down my end, only for the ******* defenders to let us down". Really good to see him so passionate.
I thought Lambert had a quiet game actually - compared to the havoc he wreaked against Pompey in the FA Cup tie a few years back - that's why I was worried about it at half time. When a forward of his proven calibre has a quiet game it usually means they're going to score if anyone is. Lambert has certainly earned a lot of respect around the country this season and I wouldn't be surprise to see Southampton have to fend of Premier League interest in him in January.
The dude is fast becoming god-like in status, there is surely nobody that has had as much influence on the pitch since the halcyon days of Letiss, weaving his magic at the Dell.....He'll take us to the Premier League..Rickie, Rickie!!!!
Yep, I noticed that too. He made it quite clear that 1-0 was enough to win, never mind needing another goal. Good for him.
It would amaze me if several prem teams didnt come sniffing in jan for him. He's a consistent goal scorer which is very rare and magnificent as a target man aswell as being able to play with ball at feet. Let's just hope they dont!
I'd take him in a heart beat. There's a world of difference between him and our forwards at the moment.
He screamed at Guly before! I remember it was during the Forest game at St Mary's when Guly was all over the place, Guly then win a corner from luck/clumsiness and I remember RL just screaming 'GULY'! Signalling to the back post/6 yard box... Such a passionate bloke and don't blame him for being hacked off
I recorded my thoughts about Lambo after the 4-2 win at Coventry. He just gets better and better. Guly let him down today and Lambo let him know it. Will be a test of Guly's character whether he pops up with a hat trick in the next game. Compare him to Beattie? Beatts did it in the Premiership, so too early to tell, but I have every confidence in the magnificent number 7.
Oh yes, I've got complete confidence he could do it in the Premiership. I mean, with all due respect, Holt and Helguson are both finding the back of the net (on a regular-ish basis) in the Premiership this season.
Brilliant player, how many balls did he bring in today? I used to say it was a toss up between him, Lallana, Fonte and SKD for our most important player but now I have no doubt.
