Watching the highlights back, their first goal wasn't just Romero's fault. VDV and Bentancur equally to blame. No communication and both end up marking thin air.
Neither Bentancur nor Palhinha have the positional discipline to play defensive midfield. Palhinha makes up for it a bit by his tackling and goals but he is slow and passes poorly. He reminds me a lot of Hojbjerg, another Bayern reject

I agree regarding Palhinha, he’s been praised by many on here but I wouldn’t take the option to sign him permanently.
Spurs need a proper DM and a box to box beast. Who they are is beyond me though

Primarily Romero though as a) it was his man and b) he was behind Edilson and had the best view of his movement.

But I'm happy to throw Bentancur into the mix as he was definitely at fault for the 2nd and was poor throughout. <doh>

I don’t think it’s outrageous to say this is now a full blown crisis!

It has been a crisis since Mourinho's sacking.

That was the first decision that was genuinely insane for its timing and total lack of forward planning. The farcical managerial wild goose chase that eventually followed in the summer despite being able to speak to candidates from April reinforced that crisis.

Appointing Nuno reinforced it further.

Repeating the exact same pattern after Conte's sacking reinforced it further.

Selling Kane and replacing him with Richarlison reinforced it further.

Allowing Ange to stay for as long as he did reinforced it further.

The EL win distracted everyone from the insanity for a bit.

Selling Son and replacing him with a bunch of middling 20 year olds reinforced it further.

And now the crisis is back and in full glare once again.

The long and short of it is:

We are an appallingly run club, and the sooner our fans wake up to this, the better. It isn't the manager. It is the club.

Wow.

Romero has just posted this on his social media. I'm going to screenshot it as I have little doubt it will be deleted by tomorrow.

I agree with the sentiments here. The hierarchy at spurs should not hide away and leave it to the players and manager to explain the club’s failings that have led to this. The failings at the club over the years is down to the failures of the owners and directors.

I don’t think there’s any way that this situation does a u-turn, with all things considered.

The results are poor
The football is awful
A large % of the fan base can’t stand him.

We’ve been here before with other managers, and we’re now at the point where the level of toxicity will result in a sacking either today, or after the FA cup game, IMO.
It’s another appointment that hasn’t worked, which is a shame, as Frank did a good job at Brentford, and deserved a chance to take on a bigger job. But he’s basically turned us into his old Brentford side with a mixed bag of results.
He’s stepped into an almost impossible role really. - A club which was already quite toxic based on poor investment in the footballing side, disgusting ticket prices, terrible football under several previous managers, and a fan base still arguing 6 months later over whether the last bloke should have got the sack or not.
And then he’s not helped himself with his comments and his style of football. He’s just not a good fit, especially right now.

Where we go from here I have no idea. But I’d really like to be proven wrong that these players are complete dross. We need some serious quality added to the squad, yes, but I’m not convinced the current crop are this bad.

It’s been a crisis since Poch’s sacking. The first sign of a proper blip, and we pull the trigger, despite all the work that had previously gone in to making us a thoroughly competitive side with a proper identity. All because it would have cost too much money to continue to build. And then a certain someone thought Mourinho was the answer. Here we are, 6-7 years later, and it’s cost us a hell of a lot more.

I was totally against Poch's sacking and certainly the timing of it.

But I do think something genuinely snapped in him (and some of the players) after the CL final, like a pressure cooker blowing. Eriksen hinted to this in a recent interview.

I also thought Jose would be an awful fit for the club.

But at the same time, I did get that there was a certain logic in the decision and that it was worth gambling while we still had the semblance of a superb team:

For a group that has done everything apart from winning a trophy, bring in a master trophy winner to get that monkey off everyone's back, and then reassess when inevitably his short term reign came to an end.

Covid then ****ed the club's finances and apparently Levy's brain, and the next summer saw a massive decline in overall quality with the arrivals of a batch of atrocious players in Doherty, Hojbjerg, Rodon and Reguilon.

This started a pattern of punching well below our weight in the market that we haven't recovered from.

Such is the insanity of this vicious cycle we are now in, the obvious storm at the centre of Levy's blindness:

The worse the squad gets, the more expensive it becomes to fix.

Six years ago, £200m would have built a top side around Kane and Son.

It would now cost us at least £400m to build a good team.

We are over a week into the window, after the coach and club owners previously confirmed/intimated the need for new blood in key positions and apparently suggested that transfer fee and wage limits would be breached if necessary.

That there are not even any half-substantiated rumours of incomings let alone actual signings suggests one or more of the following:

1) The owners were bullshitting (Likely)
2) The owners have pulled the plug on Frank and plan to get rid. (Very likely)
3) The players Frank wants are either not available or don't want to come to the club. (Possible - particularly the latter)
4) Frank doesn't know what he needs (which would be strange, seeing as the rest of us do <laugh> )

You have to laugh, or you'll cry!!

Let's look at the playing environment that Spurs are playing in. I don't think you can ignore the fact that this is a very strange PL season. From 5th to 14th where Spurs are, there is a 6 point gap. Clubs are shooting up and down this league in a matter of 3 games. Newcastle were below us 3 games ago they are now 8 places above us. I am not suggesting that Spurs are playing well, they are not, but when 3 wins takes you hurtling up the table then there are other factors at play. Apparently Brentford have a better squad then Newcastle, Man United, Chelsea, and Spurs. I find that hard to believe.
So 3 questions:-

1. Is this a complete red herring and should simply be ignored?
2. Has the game in the PL become more physical, thereby reducing the impact skillful players have?
3. Has the refereeing changed to the extent that it's levelling the team squads?

What’s his point?

Wow what a complete sh$t show our club is just months after its greatest moment for decades winning the Europa league.

Too many at our club talk a good game especially in the preseason.
Levy was given the boot with the blame heavily pointed in his direction.
We appointed Vinai who was highly regarded for his communication skills at Arsenal but haven’t heard a peep from our CEO since .
The double appointment of Patatici and Lange as sporting directors was a farce all we heard was how they would work in perfect unison . Paratici can’t wait to leave for little Fiorentina who will probably be relegated that in itself shows that all is not well behind the scenes.
Lange is so laid back he’s bloody horizontal, a clear yes man , decent at finding young talent but that isn’t what we need right now, yes it’s important that we try and scout young players for the future but aside from maybe Vuscovic who looks an absolute star are any on the players he has bought in better than our players from the academy ?

We signed Kudus who is a ready made premier league player who most were happy with but to lose out on both MGW and Eze was embarrassing.
We needed a LB and LW in the summer desperately but again we were left short.
Panicked bought Muani when we knew Solanke was out long term a player who just can’t be arsed his performance was disgraceful last night .

The new owners promised ambition but were a week in and have already sold our top scorer and not replaced him. Palace and Bournemouth both held onto Eze and Semenyo to the last minute. We are constantly left short .

Our only serious link to a new signing a week into the January transfer window is a young unproven Brazilian LB who will probably take an age to settle in. We’re even struggling to pay the £17m his club want for him.

Then onto Frank, I’ve got to be honest I was happy with his appointment but then again I’ve always been too optimistic as a fan.

We thought he would improve our defence but were conceding as many goals as last season and we aren’t blighted with injuries there like we were last season.

It seems the only thing that is being worked on in training is set pieces something we are pretty good at attacking and defending, but we certainly aren’t practicing our passing and attacking transitions, doing Rondos in tight spaces on the training pitch isn’t enough.

Onto team selections, Frank is too pragmatic always favouring Palinha and Bentancur you can’t have two sixes that don’t have any pace in the premier league and we are diabolical at closing down attacking players on the edge of our box.

Last night Frank chose a team with only one player capable of offering width - Porro and he’s been flogged to death.
Spence at LB always comes inside, Tel an inside forward and Bergvall a CM playing on the right instead of Odebert.

There’s no passion no football people running the club we are a mess.

United and Chelsea sacked their managers and they are doing better than us.
We need enthusiasm and most of all answers we are a complete mess.

i love the booing

otherwise everyone would just crack on thinking everything is fine and hide behind buzzwords like ‘projects’ ‘time’ ‘support’ blah blah blah

THFC has become a cooperate play thing not a football club with the required hunger to chase football success

We are just part of the number crunching game for the accountants running us

His point is the fact that those upstairs with the real power never, ever speak up apart from vaguely worded end of season reviews.

When times get tough, we never hear them come out to say even something as simple as "we know things aren't going well, but we fully back the manager and intend to deliver on our promise to support him", which would go a million miles to calm fans' fears.

And on the rare occasion anyone upstairs does speak, they usually wax lyrical about restoring the club to it's rightful glory blah blah blah and then follow that up by replacing Heung Min Son with Mathys Tel, hence the "lies" Romero refers to.
