It may end up in a losing cause but this is hugely encouraging from Bethell. Incredible innings and hope he can kick on from this.

We know that's not what we want. When we were trying to build a challenging score we needed mindless slogging, didn't we (yes Jacks, I'm talking to you on this occasion)? Of course you could try a different approach. Get a video of Bethell's innings and show it to Pope, Brook et al. Remind them that they are talented players and if they watched this lad they could stop getting out for low scores. They could have been watching Joe Root of course, but he seems to have been elevated to the status of superhero and therefore it's just about his innate ability not technique.

Daily Mail are reporting that Hants are trying to sign Jack Edwards as Neser's replacement when he leaves. Not surprised as he was obviously lined up to play last season before his injury.
It's slightly disappointing to lose out to Yorkshire in the battle to sign Moeen, because we presumably saw him as Howell's replacement. But it's not a huge loss - after all, he will turn 39 during the season.
