If JWP did come back on loan, and if it came with an option/obligation to buy, then I would agree. But at this stage I think it's more a case of putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. I would love getting JWP back in January, but I don't believe it will happen.
Well he's out the door for sure, he hasn't been in the matchday squad since Nuno arrived, even though he's fit and we had 2 starting CMs out last week. I'm not sure if any prem club would want him tbh.

Not sure about JWP. I mean, I'd definitely take him as a squad member (he can't be worse than Aribo!) but would JWP be a nailed on starter for us now? Given his age and the wages I assume he'd want, I think he'd need to be for a return to make sense and I'm not sure whether he would be. Downes and Jander are playing well, Shea Charles was probably our best player before he got injured and we now have Romeu as another option. Could he play a bit further forward? I assume his free kicks would still be a real goal threat.

JWP can play DM - CM - AM and even RB/RWB. In fact I’d prefer him to Roerslev.

For once I don’t care about players having to rotate or miss games etc. It’s just half a season, let’s get the job done whatever it takes.

We can’t rely on Downes because of his illness and discipline, Romeu we still don’t know what he will bring. So it could just be Jander/Charles/Bragg. We’re looking at potentially 30 games with cup and playoffs added. That’s a lot.

It would be nice to have a strong cup side too.

As I say, he'd likely be a good option in the squad but I don't think he'd necessarily be first choice in any of those positions so it depends on the wages we'd be paying. I'm also doubtful he's good enough for the Premier League any more so I'd be reluctant to agree anything that meant we have to bring him back permanently.

Sad to say but I don't really care about the cup. If the club ****s it off completely I don't think I'd care.

So that's another ex Saint you've ruined...:emoticon-0110-tongu
How are KWP and Matty shaping up?
Fernandes has been great, KWP not really getting much of a look in beyond a few sub appearances, but has looked ok when he has. AFCON is just around the corner and we'll lose AWB & Diouf, so he'll get a decent run in the team then.

I'm not sure I'd go for JWP purely down to the fact it hit a natural end before and he's probably not what we want to address the current needs in the squad as his wages could net us a couple of players.

Yes he's a step up on Aribo and versatile enough but that's not a reason for him specifically

Israel’s international GK Daniel Peretz is being linked in the German media with a loan move to Southampton in January. Bayern Munich player currently on loan at Hamburg, but not getting a lot of game time.

My German friend who raved about Scienza says he's a good shot-stopper, and better at corners than Gav.

Not sure if we should be considering Israeli players at the minute. We might get banned from the Eurovision song contest or something.

If we are looking at a permanent keeper in January then it probably shows two things. Ramsdale is off regardless and we actually don't rate any of our current keepers short term. If it's loan then we have to go again with this question in the summer.

Bazunu is young and has shown signs he can get better but if there is a better keeper on the market then I'm not going to argue too much.

Your first point I’m not too sure about. Depends if we buy or loan a keeper. I think if we go up then Ramsdale may stay for a season at least. No chance though if we don’t. He’s clearly number 2 at Newcastle so unless that changes between now and the end of the season I don’t think he’ll he too keen to stay there, so it makes their option to buy a bit redundant if he’s not interested.

Ultimately he joined us to be number 1 rather than sit on the bench at Arsenal, so can’t see him wanting to stay at Newcastle as back up either. Whether another team comes in for him remains to be seen, but yeah if we don’t go up he will have to leave in some capacity as no way we can pay his wages as a 3rd year parachute club, same for probably half the squad.

I highly doubt we buy a GK in January, would be silly too as well imo. I'm just hoping we loan one in. It was ****ing obvious that we needed to address it in the summer though and we didn't. I've not learnt anything new about Baz or McCarthy that I didn't already know then, so if the club do act now it just shows how naive they were in the summer tbh.

I think I read at the time that someone from the club said that we got promoted with them both last time.
The truth is we did it despite them and let in over 60 goals and probably would've made the top two with a better GK.
The stats this season show that they are among the worst in the league.
