Is there a post somewhere announcing the planned upgrade, informing us what to expect and when (eg the main changes and their effects, what has been improved etc). I don't recall an announcement that the upgrade was forthcoming and for how long the site would be down. I just went to post last night and found it was down whilst an upgrade was being implemented. I see it is still Xenforo but from the notice it looked like maybe it was a change of software supplier, so I went googling the "Best forum software to see what it might beIn one list Xenforo didn't appear but in another it was second. I remember the conversion from V Bulletin, which was a major improvement at the time, and I assume Xenforo is still one of the best platforms (if not the best) for our type of forum
I noticed that there are over 2,000 add-ons that range from various gamification features to administration, and enhanced search add-ons such as the popular and powerful ElasticSearch software. Means nothing to me but sounds impressive. Also they can help you develop one of your own with their framework
Mick has done well providing this forum and sorting out which of these 2,000 + add ons to implement and which ones to omit
Not sure why the upgrade was needed and it would have been nice to know in advance, or even now
It's still using Xenforo - only we've went from version 1.5 (last release 8 years ago) to version 2.3.7 (latest release). So there's going to be a lot of changes. I announced the changes to moderators and admin and had 2 days of feedback, but I needed to move fast as I'm off work this week and won't have time to react during office hours next week. The upgrade needed to happen and is way too long overdue (because it was extremely difficult with all the customisations that were done with the previous version - and even just updating the data for 18 million posts took 8 hours...)
I like the new format

For most folk it was an assault on the eyes first thing

Got this **** saved on auto log in saved password bullshit on my device
