What difference can a manager make?

Everton are now 5th, Sheff U are mid table having risen from bottom, and we are now looking to play off places rather then relegation

I believe that these changes in fortune have all been achieved without any squad changes

And the important thing for us and Sheff Utd is that we both acted quickly (especially in Utd's case). No waiting around until January to see if things might turn around first. It was very clear that Selles and Still weren't the right appointments.

I know it'll sound arrogant to fans of Preston, Stoke etc, but I fully expect us to finish in the top six and I imagine Sheff Utd will too. Ordinarily I'd be throwing Leicester in there too (alongside Coventry, Ipswich and probably Boro), but the threat of a points deduction does make their situation a unique one.

Not impressed by Fellows. His passing was wayward and his shooting was worse. Seems to be playing for himself.
I am eclectic in my tastes and I like a kebab, and they’re big enough that you can save some for next day …

Breakfast is pushing it though <laugh>

We always order extra large kebabs, so we always have leftovers, so add noodles, spice and sauce….brilliant stir fry.

The rumour regarding Leicesters points deduction is that it will be between 6 & 9 points, and Leicester will appeal so points might not be deducted until February/ March.

Given Sheff sacked Wilder in June and re-appointed him in November they acted quickly to rehire the guy they shouldn’t have sacked in the 1st place

That’s something we’ve not done yet

Fellows reminds me of KWP in the way he can dribble quickly with the ball and just glide past players with his low centre of gravity. Except he’s not as good at defending (understandably) and much better at crossing. Goalscoring has never been a strength, but he should still get 5 or so across the season in this team.
Fantastic player and really enjoy watching him play. Maybe he’ll get his first goal against his old team on Tuesday.

He’s a beast, really think getting him as Dibling replacement was a masterstroke. So much more versatile, offers more quality at this level & is way further in his development considering what we paid for him.

BTW we thought Tonda’s last minute hoofing of the ball was hilarious. So out of character for a guy who’s so measured in the way he is

A yellow for the mgr’s not a big deal
No real criticism from me, looked more like a ‘playful’ act than one out of temper, and some releasing of not a little tension in the closing stages. We knew, he knew the card was coming! Pity the referee couldn’t find his yellow cards in the first half!!

It was a decent save imo but no more than that. Surely it's one you expect your keeper to make?

He can't be blamed for their goal but I did notice something about it which I think demonstrates why he struggles quite a lot and why so many goals he concedes look 'unsaveable'.

His positioning for it is dreadful and he's far too close to his near post when any shot is only going in one place. Starting position is everything for a keeper and if you're in the wrong place you're giving yourself very little chance of saving a decent effort with pace.

Again for clarity, I'm not saying it was a factor here as I don't believe he'd have saved it regardless, but I think this is why he often gets nowhere near shots and some people assume that he had no chance when it's his positioning that's let him down.

Overall I thought he had a good game yesterday for what it's worth.
This was exactly what I was thinking, didn’t want to post as thought I would be shot down.

If he was more central he would get closer. Positioning is probably a factor in his poor shot-stopping record.
