There have certainly been worse decisions. I remember about 20 years ago we won the ashes at cricket and every single player got either an MBE or OBE. There was one player who only played one game and I think scored about 5 runs, yet he still got an MBE.

Alan Nixon is currently threatening to sue an account called 'South Stand Pies' on Twitter, as they've accused him of taking £1000 per story from Sheffield Wednesday to 'distribute spin on what's going on' pretty funny reading

Norwich Pharmacal Orders can cost up to ten grand. Assuming that’s even successful, the original tweet doesn’t even meet the threshold for libel. He’s made himself look an even bigger twat than most people already know him as.

I doubt he'll go that far, plus it doesn't say much for the whole freedom of speech absolutist crowd on X if they're just going to jump on somebody making a claim without evidence (unless this user has provided some since I last checked).

What? What does it matter what I think? My thoughts aren't the point, the point is that given all the bullshit that is said on X, Nixon is going to have a hard time getting this off the ground because he's, rather unbelievably, having to ask the person he wants to sue for their details.

As Joey Barton is currently finding out, there are repercussions to slandering people, but Joey Barton has the massive misfortune of being Joey Barton and didn't do it anonymously. He decided to call Eni Aluko a DEI hire, called her and her female co-commentator "the Fred and Rose West of commentary" and then called Jeremy Vine a nonce.

Some random account on X making a claim probably isn't going to be worth his time if it isn't true. Though because he's come out all guns blazing, it now makes him look more suspect than if he had waved it away out of hand.

Well it is worrying if that is what you think
If the pie guy doesnt give his details the cost of any action to find out will be added to the claim
If Joey Barton could justify his claims then he would be in the clear
If the pie guy cant justify it then he wont be in the clear
Joey Barton didnt slander anybody - he libelled them
