Sorry mate I meant Raynor said it was the Estate agents fault as they didn’t tell her to seek advice. Judging by where she is now I would say she was lying. I believe the same about Reeves as well, she’s lying.
Equally though do you think she would take the risk of dodging it? I didn’t know this existed until it hit the news last night
I cant get too critical of an issue like this tbh. Pay the licence, top up fine to council, and move onto bigger problems is my thoughts. But what I cant get away from is what seems to be complete incompetence by politicians. I dont think she was trying it on here by any means. But she hasnt done the basics any of us would do. It is just careless incompetence and it is that mentality that seeps into the day job in my experience. Dot the i's and cross the t's. Be responsible for your actions. It isnt a Labour thing for me. It is a politics thing. It is almost like you land at Westminster and leave your own personal responsibility at the door. Or maybe the majority of MPs really are just incompetent.
No I really do. I think she’s straight as a die. She’s no dodgy geezer, quite the opposite. Her and Starmer would make the Amish look like Jim Carrey.
That's how these things usually pan out, sling mud until something sticks/you get a bite, then drip drip drip with further revelations
Of course she wouldn't have done this deliberately .This will be an error. Pretty bad for someone in such a position, but still an error. The trouble is that is still a breach of the law, however inadvertent. ( When by the way are errors NOT inadvertent?).Had it not been for Starmer's almighty grandstanding about "law makers can never be law makers" the the matter would be closed. So the issue is did he mean what he said, or not? When and how did he change his mind? Any criminal offence means that the ministerial code has been broken. Does this apply to Reeves? If not why not? Etc x 100. This is a minor matter, but Starmer's boasting about being a man of the law and about how he would "restore integrity" to politics makes it otherwise. It is actually him that is the problem here. He has enjoyed putting himself on a pedestal of standards that no one could live up to. Including him. He is hoist by his own petard He'll be gone by this time next year .
They got into power on the back of the tories incompetence and sleez, turns out they are no better They are a laughing stock now, worldwide we are laughed at, nobody takes them seriously. Now they are backtracking again on their manifesto with income tax, just a bunch of bullshitters, he’s worse than Boris already
Why’s she dodged the license fee then, they are supposed to be well briefed and advised on stuff like this, that’s 2 high profile ministers from the top table in the matter of months found to have their nose in the trough
I’d be happy for a reboot at Labour and I think I’d want a chancellor ballsy enough to make big calls on taxing wealth and make a meaningful impact on the economy and cost of living, but not sure a civil matter based on not knowing something constitutes what you say.
Does anybody believe a word she says, I don’t, if any home owner came to see a agent in that area I bet the first thing they would say before anything else would be you do realise you need a license to let your house in that area. Or do you think they said, Oh! It’s you Rachel don’t worry we will pay the huge fine for it if we get caught, is that ok with you?
Very good post. Cant disagree with any of it. He needed to be whiter than white after the way he and his party played the tory sleeze card so endlessly. It took him weeks to fall well below the bar he set. It was a bar way too high and like you said he is now the author of his own inevitable downfall.
I do wonder if after Raynors wriggling and whining there might not have been bit of a call to sort your **** out message to other MPs. One front bench MP ballsing up on private houses is one thing, two in a short period is not a great look for a Labour party.
I don’t believe a single word she says, the sooner she’s booted out the better, sooner or later they will learn, just need the press to keep hunting them down one by one. They will learn one day.
