Yep I agree. A Duckworth Lewis equivalent is required - taking into account time played, score and other factors like red cards in this case.
I seem to be the odd one out regarding replaying this game, so how about this? We feed all the stats into a computer, press a button and let the computer decide the score. Just think of the entertainment we will get from this, no last minute winners, no bookings or red cards. What a great 90mins that will be, and think of all the money we will save, not having to go to live games, cup finals etc. great entertainment.
In 1961 an incredible afternoon as Denis Law scores all six goals as City storm into a 6-2 lead away to Luton Town in the FA Cup. Unfortunately, with 69 minutes on the clock, the torrential rain meant the referee had no option but to abandon the game. F1 awards half points for a race that's stopped after 50% complete due to bad weather, and full points if a race is 75% complete. Given fixture pileup, that doesn't feel like a bad rule for these situations?
Yes,though the half-points system wouldn't work in Football. In F1 it's the same for everyone, all in the same race, in football its a one-off match and with half points at least one of the teams could say they are being unfairly disadvantaged. But full points from 75% on (especially with a red card for the losing team) seems fair.
Jack Wilshere is reportedly favourite to succeed the dismissed Matt Bloomfield at Luton Town. If appointed, Luton's progress will provide a useful measure of the soundness or otherwise of Knapper's judgement ...........
Wilshire would have been a much greater risk than Manning, he is highly inexperienced. Not to say that he wouldn't have done well though just a risk Knapper couldn't take I think, he was brought into the club to be the manager in 2-3 years time not within 6 months of his first mens teams coaching role. Hopefully he should get Luton moving up the league
A riskier choice than someone who has dragged us down to 2 points above the relegation zone? Wilshire would have jumped at a one year rolling contract making him a cheaper option to replace if it hadn't worked out. Knapper gave Manning a 4 year contract with the obvious consequences. Time will tell.
A choice between a manager who has over 4 years in senior management and led a team unexpectedly to the top 6 in the Championship the previous season, or a coach that is part of the existing set up that was trending downwards who has only 6months ago started his senior coaching journey - not even management. Yes I would say the first option is by far the least risky 1950 - whether one turns out to be more successful than the other is for hindsight but no doubt in which would have been a riskier appointment in my mind. We can't keep chopping and changing managers every year. For the record I never wanted JHT sacked and was in full support of him, when others weren't, however we have a new Manager now that I backed for the job and will continue to back him.
You are of course ignoring the financial implications which were the main point I put forward. I didn't want JHT sacked and the only one I was glad to see the back of was Wagner but unfortunately I see Manning as a cross between Wagner and the 'stuck in one method' Coaches like Amorim and Ange. Whether the main problem is Manning, Knapper or a combination of the two is open to debate but if we lose the next two matches it is hard to see either of them surviving.
Apologies yes I missed that, obviously yes Wilshere would have been a cheaper option but I can’t imagine the finances to bring Manning and his staff are breaking the current models bank account. I think Knapper has bought some good players for the mid to long term and it’s Mannings job to get thems settled in the league and show their value, we have only seen flashes of that so far and it needs to improve. This is a critical block of games now, the next international break is in November, if results and performances aren’t improved by then I feel Manning might be gone. The tricky thing is many of his attacking players - Diallo, Forson and Kvistgaarden may not have returned to fitness by then
