I can't see what the fuss is all about really, I'm sure I heard that you would only need one if you want to work in the UK.
Anyone legally working here and who deals with HMRC will most likely have divulged all their personal information to them already so that they can keep tabs on what you are earning, what you are spending and how much tax you owe them.

"In the European Union, physical ID cards have existed for decades.
In fact, in all bar two of the EU's 27 member states, physical ID cards, in a standard, machine-readable EU format introduced in 2021, are used both as identity documents in citizens' home countries, and for travel within the passport-free Schengen zone.
The two exceptions are Denmark, which uses the digital identity and authentication app, MitID, and Ireland, which issues passport cards."

Just as this card is announced as compulsory, another company has it's data hacked! Anyone working illegally wouldn't need one, they would just continue working illegally!

Shove it, by the way does anybody know how much this role out is going to cost the tax payer and how much will it cost the tax payer per year to run the whole ****ing **** show so no it will not be free.
The country is skint first we had a 22 billion black hole run up by the tories in 14 years and now it's over 50 billion run up by the Liebour shysters in less than 12 months.

364 mill yearly planned by Tony (weapons of mass destruction) Blair, ran by his son Ewan who as been trained how to skim off the top a family of grifters, Original idea by the EU to shaft us So when issued to illegals they will be able to vote for Labour to keep power, as at the moment they will never get another chance without cheating

Your NI number card is pretty much an ID card. It tracks where you work, it tracks tax. How many forms for loans, morgatges etc are you asked for your NI number.

How about vastly increasing the punishment for those employing people illegally.
NI number is what you need to work legally, so if so many are working without one they will do the same with an ID card.
I've never been someone who believes in conspiracy theories, but I do think this is more to do with the government leaning towards a cashless society where there is less chance of a little bit of fiddle work.
Problem is MPs are the biggest fiddlers in the country

Yep... I have all the above IDs you mention plus a few others

Not sure what the big deal is about one more ID. Occasionally you have to produce 2 IDs for various stuff. Last time was when I became a governor at my g'kids school to enable a police check etc.

If you are some sort of conspiracy, survivalist living 'off-grid' fair enough, otherwise what's the problem?

I don't have a problem with one, however I don't believe it will actually make any difference to the NI system we already had.
We have a system so people have to work legally, many don't, so I don't think a ID will solve the problem

Yes, I could go along with that, they may help a bit with illegal immigrants gaining access to a number of benefits/health etc, but as a deterrent to immigration not so much.

As has been said, we already have NI number for working. As far as giving govt information, how any people have already handed over all information with bank details in order to claim some form of benefit or start pension. We have passport and driving licence- with added photo. Facebook etc study as and decide what info to throw our way (whilst some happily put loads of personal info onto socials, viewable by the world). Our mobile phones will give away our location. Reminds me of that tv program where people are told to ''go on the run'' and experts have to catch them -- access to phone use, bank card use etc.
If this card does give the govt anything, I can't see how it's much more- so that wouldn't bother me -- what would bother me is the useless politicians that we have having control of it . ( and definitely the obscene millions of cost including the percentage Blairs son will cream off, even when inevitably it will have loads of problems and like track and trace be pretty much unfit for purpose)

I agree it is likely to cost a fortune.

However my understanding is that it is deliberate fake news, ie made up fiction that Blair's son is involved!

I've heard so many people saying they are going online to sign the petition against the ID card.
These same people live their lives on social media, when I ask them why their response is, I'm not having the government having all my information, they just want to control us. I don't think they realise how the stuff they already have on their phones, contains so much more information than a ID card would.
The only thing I have against them is I don't think they will be of any benefit whatsoever.
If it was fool proof and would stop people working illegally I'd be 100% in favour of it.

The double standards of people. It's like the vaccine. I wonder how many people for the covid vaccine ( not starting that discussion again) despite being created by traceable British scientists who had no personal monetary incentive and were genuinely trying to help- took the ''I'm not putting that in my body, I don't know whats in it'' --- but now are happily going online to pay money for weight loss jabs without knowing who's making them, just for profit, no concern for welfare of customer and they certainly have no idea whats actually in them

I came back from Spain a couple of weeks ago and fancied getting a serrano ham for the kitchen as a reminder. Googled them in my lunchtime at work and when I got home I had ads for them all over my Facebook page. Needless to say, my work IP is different to my home IP, but that doesn't stop the tracking algorithms.

I don't know if ID cards are a good or bad idea, but the notion that we're not already monitored seems a bit far-fetched, TBH. Just look what's on your credit history!

No credit history for me. Never had a loan, h.p, mortgage, even never had anything out of a catalogue. Zilch.
