I am pretty confident the JWP thing will happen and not necessarily just a loan.

Still 3 months away and we need to see if we can get a good balanced midfield in that time.

Not against it as an added option but not at the expense of say Charles, who should be the first name on the team sheet.

I reckon he’d come down a fair bit from whatever he’s on now. 80k I bet would do it.

He definitely would be a useful addition, but Charles and Jander both look promising so taking away game time from one of them for a 31 year old doesn’t seem logical to me. If we are right in the mix come January then I’d probably do it, if we are like 12th or something then I wouldn’t bother given his wages

If McCarthy performs well until Xmas then I’d be happy with just a striker.

But yeah we desperately need a striker.
I’ve not been openly critical of SR and I actually think the summer window will turn out to be ok in general, but I have to admit that I don’t have a lot of confidence in them to find us a striker, especially in January.

I also don’t think they would finance a big push if our position is uncertain. I expect us to be just outside the playoffs around Xmas.

(is that optimistic?)

With a good striker I actually think we could challenge for autos so, unless we are way off the pace I still think it would be worth it and they might just consider it. The problem of course is that striker + January = virtually impossible so they’d really have their work cut out and ultimately I don’t see them achieving it. I think the best we could hope for is maybe a loan.

A loan makes most sense.

Nobody in the championship is going to be selling a quality (for our level) striker in January except for silly money. If we are around the playoffs in January a loan from the prem gives us options that don't directly block plans for the summer

But he would be a marginal improvement in an area is okay, we need a drastic improvement in the area we are not very good. Whilst it would be nice to have him back, I think we could put the money to better use.... but then it is SR and the scouting team who decide the purchases, so may be not

Not sure if we could get him to come here, but surely we should be all in on Josh Sargent.

I can't see us spunking £20m on someone who isn't good enough for the PL though (and I don't think we should). It'll more likely be a loan for this season, then if we don't go up we'll buy for next (and if we do go up, we'll need to buy someone a lot better).

Why not we have history, flynn Downes, THB, both very recently
