Salah again pulled down blatantly in the penalty area. Any other team, that's given. No matter how poor you play, you should still be refereed fairly. A scored penalty then, changes the game.
A bit like Forest last year - a team everyone expected us to beat and it seemed surprising when we lost, but it turned out they were actually decent.
If anyone is completely surprised at how decent palace were or how disjointed we looked at times needs to take off their rose tinted specs I’m afraid. No excuses. No ‘they got lucky’. No we should have had a penalty, No the referee was poor……we lost and the best team won. There is no other commentary required…this (dropping points) has been coming. Slot needs to look at the balance of the team because it is wrong…..and some big names need to be given time to bed in….it was inevitable that they would. Now let’s hope that Arsenal drop points - so that they can rejoice in Palace’s winner that took them above Arsenal Let’s never be like them.
Konate was horrendous, might have helped for the long throw at the end but he was absolutely bullied all game and looked nervous as ****
Palace corner kick that resulted in the first goal was a goalkiick. Nevertheless,we must not take away anything away from Palace because we're very poor.
B Begs the question, having spent all that money in the Summer and given last year’s performance, where do we go from here? Konate has been all over the place this season, Gomez had a nightmare against Southampton, Frimpong and Wirtz are really struggling to get to grips with the Premier League and Isak is still short of fitness. One big positive is Chiesa. The set up is not working and we are vulnerable . We have seen this in most of the games so far. Chelsea is massive now
My rankings; Ally; 8 Would have been 4, or 5-0 by half-time without him. Bradders; 5 Defensively woeful, better going forward. Konate: 2 Just a fat mess. Virgil: 5 Our best defender - and he was pants. Kerkez: 4 The lad takes one step forward - then takes two steps back. As much to blame for their 2nd as anyone, as he refused a simple clearance on his right foot so he could spin onto his left and hoy it into touch 20 metres outside our box. As cool as a cucumber that's been in the microwave for an hour and then roasted in the air fryer. Gravy: 5 Worst game for a year. That header that led to their first says everything needed to be said about him deputising at CB. Macca: 4 ****e Szobbo: 6 Easily our best outfield player. Mo: 4 Airy-fairy Isak: 5 Missed a sitter, looked like Ekitike's understudy who wasn't ready for his chance. Wirtz: 3 Non-existent in the first half. More involved in the 2nd, but should be benched for Chiesa now. Subs; Gakpo: 5 Efffort, but no quality. Frimpong: 4 Everywhere losing the ball. Jones: 5 As mediocre as mediocre gets. Chiesa: 6 One close effort before getting his goal. A quantum leap of threat compared to Wirtz. Rio: 5 Never got much of a chance, in fairness, and Gakpo was in his space. Team: 4 Bubble has burst. We knew this would be difficult - our most difficult game of the season. The defence was abysmal, the midfield was dire, and the attack was lamentable. Yet it probably wasn't our worst performance this season - it's just that we've gotten away with it so far.
Palace totally deserved their win, luck doesn't come into it - and I'm not going down the "we're a disaster waiting to happen" route. I said before the season started - and several times since - that there have been too many changes for my liking, but I'm willing to give them a chance to bed in. 7 wins out of 8 games isn't bad going for a team struggling to find its identity.
Slot made some odd experiments thst had both Bradley and konate acting like scared kids. He was pushing kerkez on for the first time this season into a vacated lw slot but wortz was anywhere but where he was effective. Rw? Come on lad. We had 2 10s as a result and still couldn't dominate midfield His changes at ht worked but then he somehow decided to remove konate and the team fell apart for 15mins. We got the break and bak into it and palace then finally decided to attack again and scored easily. If anything this should be a lesson to palace to stop respecting teams so much and go kill the game. They had 4 or 5 big chances missed.on the break despite sitting back and the offsides were distinctly.dodgy. Kavanagh decided to ignore all time wasting and preventing the game restarts as well which is fairly typical home town reffing.
It's totally my fault. Every time I went to Selhurst Park to see Liverpool we lost, so I stopped going. However my power is strong and I drove past the stadium yesterday at about 16.00 and that was enough to trigger a loss.
Only saw the highlights but no idea what Konate was doing when he let Mateta through in first half. Ball played through, he’s goalside, has the pace, gets to the ball but almost runs past it then attempts to slide tackle. Was lucky he didn’t bring Mateta down as would have been a red card as well
I'd say stupidity but then he gets riled over thst tiny tap on the arm and then gives a needless yellow away. Slot can never take off a cb 11 v 11 again We had them pinned in and tiring and did made thst move and fell apart.
I think we should get Marc Guehi in the January transfer window, otherwise we may not stand a chance of getting him when he becomes free agent.
Liverpool travel to Istanbul, yes that Istanbul, to take on Galatasary on Tuesday 30th September at 8 pm in Game Week 2 of the Champions League. Match available on Amazon Prime. The teams have met on four previous occasions, the last time being 19 years ago. It's getting increasingly harder to predict the team given the amount of new players and Slot's recent desire for experimentation. I'll have a go. Predicted lineup: Alisson, Bradley, Gomez, Virgil, Robbo, Jones, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo
