I presume slot assumed gravenberch could pass it about at cb but moving him meant he had nobody to pass to as salah was awol, jones was useless and Szoboszlai miles up the Park.
With Wirtz and Frimpong we have signed two players who looked brilliant in the German league, but can't hack the Prem at this stage. They may get up to speed or may just Havertz it
Palace benefitted from luck today - first goal came from a corner that should have been a goal kick and second came a minute after the whistle should have been blown. That said, we were so disjointed and didn't play like a team. Very early days but the new signings haven't impressed at all .... except the one who didn't play because his behaviour in the last game wasn't very impressive .....
Luck? They should have had 4 or 5. Then settled and didn't push it and we lived on risk and desperation there. Leaving a tiny child in the box in a defensive situation says it all. Surely as a senior pro you.dont stand in tje d cos your name is mo. Not they he could do much but at least he might compete. Salah was really really poor today. Really poor. Gakpo not starting killed us with wirtz playing rw or whatever he felt like. Another woeful show. Sticking Szoboszlai rb and taking off bradley was poor. OK Bradley jumped out of 3 or 4 tackles but he did at least work mitchell. It all felt like moving square pegs about trying to find something. Back to basics please. Ekitike starting (stupid ****) Salah off on 60 and 45 if he wont run knowing he is off. Gakpo lw. Szobo 10 Keep wirtz and frimpong on the bench for 30min spells along with isak until they prove their are worth more. They'll all prob benefit from playing against tired players. Palace deserved the win but they did back off and tired second half. We were there for the taking at 1-0 and they failed to get the winner then.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot to Sky Sports: "Very difficult first half. They did really well and deserved to be 1-0 up, we were lucky it was only 1-0. "Second half it was the opposite. It took a while before we scored and we did with a few minutes left. But from a second set piece they won the game. "If you want to compete you need a very positive balance with set pieces and even more in this league. It was one of our biggest strengths last season, now we have conceded two against Newcastle and two here. But this league is more and more and more about set pieces." On Crystal Palace: "Their game style fits really well to their players, They have a low block with fast players on the break and a big man in Mateta. We had a lot of problems in the first half. The rest of time we had possession but very hard to beat that low block." On the winning goal: "It is never ideal when you concede in extra time of extra time. But there was a sub so half a minute extra was fair. I have to check when they exactly scored but we have to defend the throw-in better. "We take learnings from all the games we have played and we can take even more from a game like this."
You can analyse and micro analyse the game but just on the goals that were scored and are the only ones that count, they got two strokes of luck. They were the better team and could have and should have scored more as should we, Wirtz's miss etc
Thought the result was fair as tough as it was As I say let’s hope we buck our ideas up Not dropping points - pressure always builds that’s now gone and we will still have a lead Chelsea game now massive again
Wirtz needs to be dropped to the bench until he’s got the speed of the league sorted - tidy player but seems lightweight and is trying a little too hard now. We look far more balanced when we have last years three in the middle and Gapko on the left. We do miss Diaz imo. not getting Guehi looks like a massive miss too but not much we could do about that. well played Palace - they look very good and thoroughly deserved the win.
Just watching the highlights on YouTube. Wirtz has no excuse for not scoring from his chance. I’m not sure why Salah has his hand in the air for the Chiesa goal either
Sounds like we were a bit **** and deserved to lose. Palace seem to have our number at the moment, much like they had Man Citys a few years ago.
As I said to mito, you can argue all day about who, why and when someone should have scored (for either side) but it comes down to the goals that were actually scored. Palace got the luck today with the goals scored because one came from a corner that was a goal kick and the other came after the game should have been over. Whatever other arguments there are for who 'deserved" it, from my perspective, it comes down to the goals actually scored because they're the only ones that count. It works both ways, of course, we've had luck on our side too for some of our goals.
Longest unbeaten stretch in top 5 leagues. Was always a tough game. 1-1 would have been a decent result. Makes next two even more important now though, away to Chelsea who been down to 10 in last 2 games and might be short of CBs now but aLeah’s tricky game and then United after internationals
I still say slot should have left konate on, put chiesa for isak earlier and having seen the state of Jones put on.endo. We lost all shape once we had jones and szoboszlai at cm. Both isak and wirtz shot when they should habe passed. Thry were trying to hard
