Good, puts an end to that rumour..... Martin O'Neill will have to look for fresh striking talent during the winter transfer window - after learning Asamoah Gyan won't be returning to Sunderland in January. The Black Cats' new boss said on his first day in the job that he would review Gyan's loan switch to Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates. He has now learned that the Ghanaian World Cup star will see out the season in the Gulf, as Sunderland have no powers of recall under the terms of the loan agreement. The only way Gyan can come back is if Al Ain decide they no longer want him, but their manager, Cosmin Olaroiu, has insisted they are delighted with the deal. Gyan, who has netted six goals in six league games for Al Ain, is also happy to see out his year before eyeing his next move. He will continue to earn around £200,000 a week while on loan, having been on 'just' 30k per week at the Stadium of Light. The news means Sunderland will bank all of the world-record £6million loan fee Al Ain paid to get Gyan - cash which O'Neill will now be given to rejig his squad. O'Neill, who has been linked in France with PSG's Turkish striker Mevlut Erdinc, will seek forward alternatives as a matter of priority, with an injection of pace seen as essential. "For now, I can't really say anything about Sunderland," said Gyan. "I am on loan for a year so we will have to see what happens at the end of the season. I am doing well. So let's see where my future lies after my loan deal." Romanian Olaroiu added: "I think he feels good here, I think we supported him to come back into shape and he will remain here
Thank goodness for that. My lad knocks them at a better rate than that & he only cost a fiva per goal!
Don't want him back and he was never really an option with the 6m fee and him missing for 6 weeks for ACN. Leave him be not bothered if it was Bruce or him he could have said no back stabbing money grabbing toe rag.
This. If they paid a world-record loan fee for a year, then it is surely up to them to claim the full year. In any case, depending on the terms of the contract, if we could recall Gyan we might have to compensate him for loss of earnings at £200k a week till May! I think it would be a good idea for MON to talk to Gyan now though. If they want to work with each other next summer, we only need spend a bit on a stand-in in January. If Gyan isn't keen to come back then, we need a permanent replacement. it would help everybody to clear the air now.
even if he comes back for next season, he'll have the hump when his wages go from 200K to 30K (quoted in daily fail).
Gyan has ****ed himself a bit tbh. And by a bit, I mean alot. If 30k a week wasn't enough for him and 200k was much nicer... he's just priced himself out of a move to a majority of clubs. He thinks he's worth 200k now. Maybe even more. Anything less he just won't accept. So him moving back here for 30k, or if we can up it to even 60k... it won't fly with him. That is 140k less than he thinks he is worth. Look at Tevez. He is desperate to get out of Man City now. But how much a week is he on? 250k? How many clubs outside of Man City/Barca/Real can afford that? None. Except the Arab ones. No club can buy him as his wages are to much, and Man City don't want to loan. So he is stuck. And the clubs mentioned above have good strikers already... but Man Utd won't take Tevez back. And Gyan isn't good enough for them. So Gyan has ****ed himself. If he came back for 30k-60k a week, and put in the graft and scored goals I think I could forgive him. But I don't think he could. In his mind he will be worth 4x that, and will always be looking to get away to some daft ****s who will pay him that,
Index-linked £6 million a year back to the club until he retires would suit me Long life and good health to the lad!!
it depends on how Gyan sees it, Hairy. If he's seeing this year as 'a year-out' with a nice little earner, he'll soon adapt back to the norm. But if it's going to his head, then you're right - he's f**ked. Somehow I don't think that's Gyan though. He's handled this whole thing well. He's never handed in a transfer request, he's never spoken badly of Sunderland, and if he thinks a comment will prejudice his relations with the new manager he just says "I can't comment on Sunderland while I'm on loan here". He hasn't put a foot wrong, and I think he's balanced enough to know this year is a wind-fall and nothing more than that.
He's over-rated anyway, mainly by himself, I don't want him back. Only had a good 5 or 6 games last year and most of the time he looked un-interested.
Get shot for me. Try and convince this club he is at to make up the difference to get our money back (or more if possible) and move on. He made his bed for me and would rather O'Neill brings his own choice of player in.
We're desperately short of goals and yet a lot of people don't want Ghana's top striker. Presumably, those same people don't want England's top striker back either. And Denmark's top striker is a bighead who begs for pizza, ha, ha. So is there anyone in the Third Division you would like? Because that's the way you're heading.
Know what you're saying but in a funny way I'd like it more if we could get a third division striker who did the job. Shades of SKP and wanting to play for us rather than being a stepping stone. Definitely unlikely but also definitely better as well if it works. Even better than all of this would be if Noble was the answer, hopefully we'll find out soon eh?
