Hettonist - you talk so much sense. I'd love to find another Phillips in the lower leagues. But then, let's face it, the chances are pretty slim. But let's look at your point about Noble. I was very excited at the prospect of Bent and Gyan together, precisely because they were so different and wouldn't get under each other's feet. And both are very good at what they do. Sadly, it didn't get time to work out. But, whilst I haven't seen Noble, he sounds exactly the sort of johnny-on-the-spot that Bent is. So assuming Bendtner will be on his way next summer, why not turn the clock back - Gyan and Noble instead of Gyan and Bent? I'd jump at that, mate.

I just don't understand the people on here who want to rubbish every international striker we get if he says the wrong thing. We're short of goals for god's sake - we can't afford this nonsense.

Fair play Cutey, Gyan and Noble could work well. I understand all of the aggro towards Gyan but most players don't care about Sunderland as much as us, that's the truth. This is why it always hurts so much, but the next guy might say the right things but be equally out for himself. Some might say fair enough. That's why I think a lower league player ideally or a local lad, there's no guarantees of quality though even if you get loyalty.
Even if Noble is as good as we hope, we'd be a bit shy on experience up front. Bendtner will be away but Campbell will be back, will probably take him an age to get back up to full speed though so yeah, as much as it feels wrong, I see the logic. Who else will we get in reality? Maybe say to Gyan we want a good season to put himself in the shop window and £15/£20m and he can go. Give us time to plan and assess Noble, Whickam and Campbell. Could work maybe. . .
