Free Speech. We have had marches from certain groups chanting "UK go to hell" and "Death to the UK." Is that not free speech as well? Nobody would bat an eyelid if that chant was "Who the f is Jesus/God" in a christian sense. They would probably roll their eyes and move on with life. You can't say we have a freedom to protest and then start choosing who can protest. You can't pick and choose who is allowed to say what. Its BS we have police chasing down people for being idiots in this country rather than going after criminals........and I include the ludicrous Palestine Action decision by the government. Take people to court for breaking the law but stop making stupid laws that police speech.......IMO......society is able to self police that kind of thing and most normal folks would cut ties with people who take speech too far. Doesn't need a knock on the door by the cops unless they have info that the same person is likely to take things further.
Ok, so you are cool with it. I didn’t ask if it was lawful. Just whether you believed it was a scummy and antagonistic thing to do.
I didn't say I was "cool with it." I just said it was free speech. If I had been there (or anywhere else) and that chant broke out next to me I would be side stepping my way away from those involved.
Well I asked your opinion and you side-stepped it, so that was the obvious conclusion. Seems to me like a far right chant, right? Not centre or mainstream.
If that's how you want to frame it. To me its just pointless and stupid but then "protestors" on all of these marches or at any demo chant stupid stuff whether they be "far right" or left wing or centre / mainstream.
I don’t know anyone who would chant that. Far right leaders of the event and far right chants going on. You always say the lefty marches are ‘the far left’ but now it is ‘if I say so’. Hmmm…
I'm not saying anything. you are filling in gaps again. You asked what I thought of a chant. I answered it was free speech. pushed further by you again filling in gaps I stated I thought it was stupid and I would distance myself from these people but it is still free speech. If you are that desperate to win arguments and score points then you are free to take the points and I will even say you won the argument if it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. Maybe then we can all get back to a genuine debate rather than "anything right = far right......anything left is lots of luvvly fluffy people and nothing to do with any of the trouble makers at lefty events. Dog with a bone springs to mind but hey ho. You win...feel good
If I flip that on you then it is interesting that your narrative is always about the evils of the far left and how they take over left leaning protests but you don’t want to admit the same of the right. I don’t win anything as this country is going to the racist dogs, while the centre right nod and let it happen.
Admit what of the right? How can the "far right" take over a protest that you've already stated they organised. lol As for the centre right nodding nodding and letting it happen. They are hamstrung by their (and the left's) defence of everybody's right to protest! All this talk of double standards not being real, yet you are in disdain that they don't clamp down on one side? Considering there were only 25 arrests at a march this size it would suggest it was more peaceful than the supposed peaceful marches.......but of course right wing folks that piss up walls should have been added to that number
Are you going to compare little grannies with Palestine Action t-shirts to make a point? I have not heard one person on the right condemn the racist and Islamophobic chanting that went on. Because most of the right is in tacit agreement with it.
We can all get an image of any right or left march and come up with that narrative! Its hilarious that when presenting a left wing march they choose photos of the throng of normal folks and ignore the vicious masked lot but on a right wing march they zone in on the 1% solely. That nasty black girl in your photo as well. Awful racist woman. Maybe she got the wrong march and got stuck there at the front.
Oh yeah, they shoved her up there. She looks totally confused at her place! Tell me one of those celebs on the front row you don’t think is a deranged extremist?
You fill in gaps but don't read half of what I type: I already said that the palestine action decision was ludicrous and no I am not comparing that to this. But highlighting 25 arrests at this march is pretty much inline with other marches left wing or right wing. Thats not to dismiss their actions but just that any large gathering like this is going to have some bad eggs and yes as a % I daresay this march had a higher % than most marches but still the highlighting of 25 arrests is presenting it as if it is something out of the ordinary. And your last statement is you making things up. most of the right is not "in tacit agreement" with it. You just want to believe these things. I don't believe most of the left wing marches agree with the UAF lot charging in for a fight either. Nor do I think the left wing commentariat ignoring that element are "in tacit agreement" with the far left. I do think commentariat and politicians on both sides gloss over and ignore some of these things because they don't suit the point scoring arguments they are making but that is another matter. Both sides highlight what they think makes the other side look worse and ignores what make their own side look bad.
It is this simple: if a racist, violent, dog-whistling bully, a psychotic former actor, a reality tv show contestant who made her career out of causing hatred, got together and organised a love everyone march, I would not give them validity by attending. And yet the centre right…
They all are. your point is? You don't think the masked up yobs of the UAF that try and force themselves to the front are not deranged extremists?
I just made my point in the other post. Attending this march was tacit agreement with several evil people.
