The "fiddle" that is key is that she named one house as her home for cheaper council tax and the other for cheaper stamp duty! The putting half the house in her son's trust with her and her husband holding the other 50% shared is not a problem at all IMO and advice on that or not is a non story. That she then cashed out her 25% by selling that to that trust "for her son's benefit?" is questionable to say the least. The key thing though is you can only (in real life) have 1 first home and the other is a second home. Its unbelievable that it is legal to be able to register different houses as first home for different purposes. But then these sort of laws have had these dodgy loopholes in them since forever and seemingly never get closed. I haven't read transcripts or anything but for her law firm to publicly deny they gave her that advice I am assuming she actually named or gave reason to believe the advice was from them. But that is an assumption.
The law firm is a family conveyancing company the advice she took came from a tax specialist in the complex situation. She was still in place last night and there's not much likelihood she'll be gone today. Never mind the bollocks talked in the rabid right wing gutter press and online media disgraces the outcome of the ethics inquiry and HRMC's investigations will determine her future.
Resignation from the cabinet today is my expectation. “This affair is causing a distraction blah blah” - Done, Done on to the next one
Rep. Jamie Raskin calls Reform UK leader Nigel Farage a "Putin loving, free speech imposter and Trump sycophant." https://www.youtube.com/shorts/2aS-DRM3yu8 And https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/nigel-farage-reform-uk-free-speech-b2820274.html "Calls have been for Nigel Farage to be hauled in front of the MPs to face questions about Reform UK’s “assault on the free press” after the party threatened to banThe Independent from attending events if it did not change a critical story. It comes afterThe Independent’s political editor David Maddox reported that he had taken calls from a member of Reform’s leadership and an aide to Mr Farage warning that the publication would be banned from all events if it did not alter its coverage. Last week, The Nottingham Post accused Reform UK of a “massive attack on local democracy” after a local council leader effectively banned the authority from engaging with the newspaper and its website."
Heads it's awkward, tails it's awkward for the prime minister - BBC News She's all but gone by the sounds of it. And rightly so.
Yep it does sound like it. I think Starmer doesn't want to, but has to. I can understand why he doesn't want to, and that is mainly form a personal level as they have both been on this journey to the top together and ultimately he must trust her as a politician to put her where she is. Unfortunately, she has to be judged by the standards we expect from them and they expect from us.
Former Conservative minister Nadine Dorries has defected to Reform UK. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the ex-MP for Mid-Bedfordshire said: "The Tory Party is dead. Its members now need to think the unthinkable and look to the future."
Mad Nad joins the other crackpot hypocrites led by the gatemouthed gobshite spouting unworkable unaffordable policies.
It shows that Reform are not a new option. They are just a rebranding of the Tory party’s right wing.
Bad news for Starmer is that there now has to be an election for deputy party leader and he's not very popular with members who vote.
