It's true we are short of depths, at least now with Ajayi, Famewo, Hughes, Coyle, Crooks out. Our **** luck continues unabaited. And Belloumi, Millar and Matazo still out (yes, I know re Belloumi!!). Have even half of those back available and it looks a lot different.
But there were still options.
I wouldn't have started with McCarthy at CB. Too much too soon. Then, it was crystal clear it wasn't working yet he didn't make needed changes at HT.
He has Williams sat on the bench. He could could have gone RB, with Drameh CB. Or to a back 3. McCarthy either off or to DCM where he looks a bit more comfortable and where we were getting bumfucked. Or put Williams in there. Akintola on earlier with Gelhardt central. Palmer to drop back deeper. There's all sorts of combination changes he could have made, important point ... when it was so obvious it wasn't working at CB, in midfield, in service to attack, bit instead he did nothing and bang, 3-0 down. Even then we huffed and puffed but didn't get a grip on the game, with eventual changes coming far too late.
I guess it's a learning process for him (and his assistants) too, but I was expecting better from him.
All that said, hopefully we get this DM in quick, and maybe 1 or 2 more if we can move Furlong and 1 or 2 other fringe players out on loan or whatever.

The problem with this is with Ajayi and Famewo the signs were there last season.. Neither were regulars and we've sold two who were - we should have kept one of Jones or Macca.

We've possibly overspent on wages up front as we couldn't pay a fee and now we are having to ship players out to bulk up the areas that also need some attention.

It all remains to be seen at the end of the window how we turn out, but the mismanagement at the club over the last two years caused today. Its yet again an unbalanced squad. Illness clearly paid a part and we shouldn't jump to conclusions obviously - but today is a really good lesson that there's still a lot to do to get us competitive over the course of 46 games, week in week out.

Fingers crossed we have a decent season of luck with injuries, as fans we do deserve one after last year.

Have to completely disagree.
Slater was no worse than than most
Fair enough. Were you there or watching on tv? Not a dig either way but I genuinely have no idea what he’s good at, he’s drives forward then loses it. Not a bad player to bring on for the last 15 but shouldn’t ever start for us with a fully fit squad.

Coventry have scored six goals with an xG of 0.96. Are they all screamers from 30 yards out or something? The ****’s going on?

They all have, every one of them, McBurnie, geldhart, lundstram were as poor as every other ****er out there, it'll be usual suspects who cop all the flak no doubt tho. Only one with a passable game for me would be Drameh.
Genuine question cos I was there and haven’t seen any highlights, but where was Drameh for their second goal?

'Our best away performance' - reaction
Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside:

"A very disappointing day for us. After 20 minutes we had some chances to score and then we made one mistake in our defence which they punished with a goal.

"At half-time we tried to change things and they then punished us with two quick goals. In the end I must congratulate Blackburn on a deserved win.

"We had a lot of problems before this game. We missed some players and had a virus in our dressing room, so this is maybe a key question of energy and intensity.

"We must analyse this game, keep going and keep working."

Blackburn head coach Valerien Ismael told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"When you win your first game it's really good because you start your Championship season.

"When we lost games we stayed calm and focused. We deal with adversity and now we're moving forward and the win will help us to start the season.

"In the second half we scored two goals straightaway and that gave us the confidence to control the game. Since I've been in charge at the club, that was the best away performance.

"Now before the international break we have a difficult home game against Norwich and we need the same performance and same focus."
