Yeah, the issue with using hotels is a bit like what I saw when they used to use them to house people with long term mental health / homelessness issues. i.e It was occupancy for what were run down establishments where private owners could charge the govt vastly inflated sums of money for. I saw this with my own eyes as it was an area that I was involved with from the homelessness side of things. Like you say, it then has a knock on effect for the rest of the hospitality sector. As for processing migrants. It's an area that we've largely neglected to fund in terms of where to put them, and the numbers of staff both to process asylum claims and in terms of border force / security to stop people from making the journeys in the first place. So we've ended up in a situation where we now have people coming here and we can't sort out the genuine claims from those who come here for economic reasons.
We gave France over £500M for border control for a three year period, and probably substantial other amounts. It cost according to AI £5M to build a basic 100 bed hotel. We could probably do them cheaper, if not regarded as actual hotels to a basic standard to house homeless and migrants being processed. We spend £5.77M per day and that figure is down, to house migrants in hotels. You do the sums mate, you're an accountant, it seems total madness the way we are going about this. The barracks now are dead ducks, but nothing stopping us building our own residences for those in need, within the budget that is being splashed about. Money given to hotel chains is money down the drain to Tory mates, make compulsory orders to get the money invested in our own residencies, which will always keep their value. Stop using hotels is my argument and set up and build properly residence accomodation for those in need, and stop taking short cuts to the easiest methods.
You have to address concerns and why people feel like that, some areas are probably suffering Tory depravation, you need to improve their lifestyle, their job opportunities, you need to educate them, you don't do that by winding them up and calling people far right. This is social media, It don't help when people like yourself chose to mock others, all you do is encourage more racism. After working i Birmingham, Coventry, Walsall and Wolverhampton thru the 70's to earlyb2000's, I can assure you this isnt a new thing, its always been like that, I've had customers from all nationalities and a good % of each aren't as tolerant to others as you'd like to think. Some of the things I've had said to me still stick in my head now after all these years, when these type of conversations pop up
Yep. It’s the same for all communities and boils my piss when people imply or even say directly that it’s a white British problem that folk have with different nationalities and skin colours. I was told by my Mother many years ago, she was a woman who was a housing manager for the council, that she was there for a problem guy who was looking for housing in the area and when shown around and offered a property, he said to his mate ‘too white’, he was talking about the street/estate where this property is. I grew up in South London, in amongst people from Africa, Caribbean, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India etc and I agree it's not a new thing. The racism swang both ways. But I think with the advent of social media, it's got a lot worse because now you have huge swathes of people who only get their information from the internet and some don't even bother to talk to people other than those in their own communities. The algorithms feed people more and more of this inflammatory stuff and there's no counter to give people another side of the story. I've literally just been talking to a mate of mine this morning who now thinks she's an expert in Islamic politics because of a instagram channel she's been following and she thinks there's going to be an Islamic revolution in the UK like there was in Iran. She's never even spoken to a Muslim in her life....
