Lucumi was dragging on and whether people on here agree or not, the club are obviously keen to get a CB in for the first game of the season. Seems like an excellent price. Big, strong lad, performed well last season and had loads of experience in a top league. Sounds like just the job to me. Can partner Ballard straight away, get Reinaldo into left back and then we can be a bit more patient with any other targets, working up to the deadline if that's what's needed. He might not be as much of a ball player as Lucemi or as fast, but I think they are a little overrated as traits given that we will be deep and compact for much of the season.
I want him to go to the championship, he's really good in possession - love when he steps out with it. He has to get better dealing with direct balls, he really struggles with this and I worry he doesn't get that in holland. The key will be getting 1st team minutes
Said in the match thread, I would be perfectly happy to see this version of JS line up next weekend. He’s shown good instincts, he’s mobile, his passing and carrying is standout. Definitely a prem player in there for me.
Yeah he’s looked great stepping out in the Augsburg game so far. Hopefully a team like Stoke or Preston need a CB on loan so he can really learn to head a ball
Yep hes looked good against the foreign opponents but struggled against the more physical British teams and that massively worries me He's a talented lad tho and if he can work out how to use his body then he's going to be a class player
I 100% agree with the bit in bold. I'm old school and want my defenders to be no nonsense tough defenders first and foremost. If they can't pass great then that's why we have Xhaka, Diarra etc. Win the ball, give it to someone who can then progress the ball.
He has more than enough quality for Villarreal, Real Sociedad, Betis, and even Atlético to have gone for him at that price.
