That's the Tour de France done and dusted - Pogacar running away with it already and they haven't even had a sniff of a mountain yet.

In a test match where England's 3rd highest scorer in their 2nd innings was "Extras" it looks like some superb bowling has put them on the brink of victory at lunch on the final day. India need 81 to win with only 2 wickets remaining. So good to have Archer back in the team.

Great win for England. Cricket writing the headlines that horse racing hasn’t been able to for years - 15 years ago we had Kauto Star v Denman, we had Big Bucks and Quevega, then came Frankel but the last 10 years have felt pretty underwhelming.

Super day at the cricket, even if i was 'watching' it on the BBC web site, and even that got me on the edge of my office chair...!! I do think that when the Indian team wake up this morning they will be wondering how they went from 41 for 1, 152 runs required with a batting line up like theirs and wonder how they came up short...!! But in all honesty the bowling performance put in by our lads was simply superb, and i think after watching the highlights last night fully deserved the win...

Still a few things to sort out moving forward, our top three do have a few too many blips in their form, and we really can't rely on Stokes and Archer bowling a high majority of overs in a Test...

All in all, great result, great match and it's not over yet in who wins this Anderson-Tendulker series...

I was having a similar chat with my mates on Sunday about this with the Sinner/Alcaraz final just about to finish, the tennis world only has these two who are going to battel out each and every Major, not like the four exception players we had recently. All sports need them to survive, and although we have had some good things happen in the equine world of racing, those you have mentioned provided so much drama it seems highly unlikely we will ever get to those great heights again...??

You never know, but don't hold your breath...!!

Although it's been coming for a while, being bowled out for 27 against a very good Aussie line up i may add, the West Indian cricket team has hit a new all time low, and it pains me a bit to see this. Brought up watching Viv Richards, Gordon Greenidge and Clive Lloyd smash our bowlers around the park they also had Malcom Marshall, Michael Holding and later on Curtley Ambrose ripping up our batting order with much ease. What times, great times if you loved your Test Match cricket, and some very happy memories i have from them.

Viv Richards wrote in one of his many autobiographies that the worst thing to happen to the West Indies in terms of the loss of young players to other sports was electricity as the young kids started to watch other worldly sports on tv at home, mainly America sports, and it started to drain up the sporting and cricketing talent.

The West Indies do have some very talented cricketers, but with no money in the Test team and $1,000's upon $1,000's to be made in world wide T20's the Test Match side has slid down to 8th best in a list of 12, and has no signs of getting back to the glory days of yester year anytime soon.

From my point of view, world cricket needs a strong WI Test side, not just to give balance and shake up the three main super powers, but because there is a whole host of people who remember what they gave to Test cricket back in the day.

Fingers crossed, but not with much hope, we get to see the great batters and bowlers those Islands gave us once more soon...

100% agreed red - I'd also add Brian Lara and Joel Garner (must have been absolutely nerve-racking having him bearing down to bowl at you)

Some things transcend sporting rivalries and spiteful taunting. 5 minutes into the match between Leicester and Sheffield Wednesday the Owls fans, in a planned and publicised protest against the Chairman of the club, finally entered the stadium having left their seats empty up until that point. In a wonderful show of solidarity the Leicester fans, almost to a man, stood and applauded the Owls fans. Huge respect to the Leicester fans and of course the Owls fans too <applause>

The Walker Cup took place this weekend with the Americans trouncing our GB & Ireland players once again on home soil, 17-9 as a matter of fact in the end. They played the 2 day Ryder Cup style competition on a wonderful looking golf course, the Cypress Point Club, just up the road from Pebble Beach golf course in California.

Well, a quick google of the costs showed me that any idea of playing the course are almost next to nothing as you have to be invited first, and i don't know many who do play it. And if do get the chance of playing this extremely exclusive private golf club, you better adhere to the very strict club house rules and the limited time you can spend on site. However, if you do want to join, the initiation fee if $250,000 is your starting point, with further costs deemed payable should the club need works carrying out...!!

To play any such of golf comp on a course that is out of bounds to practically everyone, they refused a certain JF Kennedy once upon a time, to me is a bit crass, as the normal player who watches the event who wants to have a go at playing the course obviously can't. which i think is a shame...

They only have 250 members, Condoleezza Rice, Clint Eastwood and some other multi-multi-billionaire people are members, so even if you won £160m on the EuroMillions your not getting in...!!!!!

So, that's it then, 11 days of 'cricket' and the chance of getting back the Ashes has gone, done and dusted. It's hardly been emotional, it hasn't last long enough to get emotional about, but the fall out has, and the journo's and fans have all waded in big time...!!

Let's be honest, playing the Aussies in their back yard is always going to be testing, even if they were missing some of their star players, its just that we didn't exactly seem to help ourselves throughout this car-crash of a series. Baz-Ball is dead, long life Test cricket, if we can return to it, if possible...!?!?

The Aussies showed us that line and length, hitting the right areas along with putting the bad ball away and taking your catches is the simplest way of playing winning cricket. We seem to have been obsessed with trying to go at 5.6 runs an over and bowl at +95mph balls, not once thinking about throwing the ball to a spinner, like you need one of those in a Test match...!!

It's a shame that it has ended like it has, made all the more bearable by the fact I havnt watched a single delivery live as I do not subscribe to the relevant tv station, but 11 days of action is poor in reality...

Oh well, with two more Test matches to go, we can look forward to Glen McGrath say I told you so when it ends up being a whitewash 5-0 win for his fellow compatriots. Cant wait...!!

At least we can start looking forward to trying to beat a New Zealand side who have just recorded a test match first when their opening batters, Tom Latham and Devon Conway, made centuries in both of their innings against the West Indies. Should be a steal then, can't wait...!!!

The whole organisation was totally unprofessional - far too much golf and boozing and a completely non-existant preparation. Scarcely believable that this is a professional sports team. The whole set up of English cricket needs looking at, there needs to be more focus on the 4-day game at county level in order to prepare test cricketers for this kind of challenge. My team, Yorkshire, has to do without their England players for the majority of the season and when they do put on the White Rose there is very little application.

Oddy, that's the same for Freddie Flintoff and James Anderson, hardly played a match for Lancashire yet called Lancashire legends...!!

So lets all rejoice at the England cricket team beating the old enemy Australia by 4 wickets in under two days...!!! Got to say, I'm happy that we eventually got to beat the old foe, but in under two days is taking the mick a little don't you think...??

Yes, it was a green topped lush track that crown green bowlers would have enjoyed playing on, but not for Test cricket, and it's all a bit annoying really. Melbourne holds enough space to hold 100,000 supporters, Don't know how much they have lost through revenue, but I bet they arnt overly happy either...!!

Anyway, we won, we should celebrate it, even if we went 3-0 down before feeling like playing...
