People forget with Patto, he's only actually had 3 full playing seasons as a senior pro. Only 25 which is young for a keeper and based on that I think he's at a very decent level for where he is now. That being said, he can clearly be upgraded and the club are obviously very keen to upgrade in the gk position. It's a shame with him being one from the academy but could be a difference maker for us, and the club has to come first. Think there's a decent chance we sell him tbh, his value is unlikely to be higher than it is now while he's with us.
I do feel sorry for Patto, I'm one of those who thinks who might be capable of stepping up, that said if the club feel that they can significantly improve the position, it's hard to be against that.
I'm gutted for Patto but the club is growing. It outgrew Lyndon Gooch which was heartbreaking. It's going to outgrow a few more of these players, many of whom joined us in League One.
I think a decent keeper to go against will really help patto in the long run,I think he can get a lot better but at times last season thought he was to comfortable with no one pushing him that hard
I'm probably a lone voice here, But I think the club has outgrown Luke O9 as well... great servant, his passion and how much he cares for the club...but is he Premier League standard.. Personally I don't think so
I'm on the fence about him staying if we bring someone like Petrovic. From the selfish point of view, I'd want him to stay as I think he could really push Petrovic and can take his game to another level. However, there's also another part of me that wants him to play week in week out as he's earned that.
Unfortunately this. We all need to get behind the lads who pull on the shirt in six weeks time and enjoy the ride. Hhhaaa'wwwwaaaaayyyyyy the lads
He's good enough to have a place in the squad and come on for 10 mins towards the end of games. I wouldn't want anyone else throwing themselves in the way of shots. But I'd say if we stay up and push on his time will be up. I'll shed a tear.
Can't say I feel disappointed for Patterson. I didn't rate him particularly highly at championship level and it didn't really feel like he kicked on the way we hoped. A marked improvement at keeper feels like low hanging fruit. As it would on the right wing.
Think he could do a job in a back 3 on the right as a ball player. He has the heart and head of a prem player imo. Just not the athletic ability
Oh agreed absolutely. plus if we can get £10m pure profit out of him whilst his value is still high, and then sign a new back up keeper for £2-3m, it just makes financial sense.
I only feel disappointed for him on a human level. Academy lad who will have dreamt of playing in the premier league. And I hope he still gets the chance to, it just might be somewhere else.
I've got a sneaky feeling there'll be a Charlie Cresswell "here we go" today lads and lasses. Absolutely no intelligence or insight in any of my posts, let alone this one. It's just a gut feeling.
