We were probably on the same bus going to the games in those days !
Went with my grandad who lived at #3, Spring Gardens. Walked down North Rd to B. Park, stopping off at a newsagents on the corner for grandad's paper and a bag of sweets for me. Stood behind North stand goal straining over the pitch side metal fence admiring Billy Bly's often magical performances. He used to own a sweet shop, but I can't recall if it was the same as the newsagents close to the ground ? Bill Bradbury - what a player he was. Brian Bulless, Paul Feasey , Douggie Clarke, Les Collinson, captain Andy "Jock" Davidson, et al.

Happy days.
I think he did own the sweet job near the ground, remember my old man talking to him at the Pantomine at New Theatre one year,he was sat behind us,and my old man told me that……..OH NO HE DIDNT

Who'd have thought it? So many A-listed City Forum stars frequenting the same neighbourhood in days of yore !

If I recall correctly, wasn't there a large East Yorkshire ( "Yakker") Bus depot/garage on Anlaby Road just slightly West of the Northern end of Spring Gardens ? If so, I vaguely remember kicking a beaten up old leather football against the garage doors of the building on Sunday mornings with a local lad when we chatted about City's game from the day before. For the life of me, can't remember his name.

Also, wasn't there a Serviceman's Snooker Club cum boozer to the East of Spring Gardens on the N. side of Anlaby Rd ? My Gran was always complaining that grandad spent too much time visiting ! ( I used to nick a couple of Park Drive tipped cigs from her packet most times I visited. I'm sure she knew, but never said a word bless her. :emoticon-0100-smile

A lot of the comments mentioned Boothferry est and a couple of pubs the names of which I've forgot.
The Casual something or other was the Facebook page.
I'm not saying it isn't City fans, I honestly don't know. Pubs mentioned would probably be drum n cymbals, schooner and maybe mermaid, eight bells at a stretch?

When I was a kid, I was at school in Filey, then went to Driffield when we moved. All my mates were either Liverpool or Man Utd fans at Filey, so that was who I was “supporting.”
Driffield, start of ‘86 similar, with the odd Leeds fan & the even rarer City fan.
I remember my first FA Cup Final from ‘85, Utd v Everton, Kevin Moran the first player to be sent off & Norman Whiteside to score the winner in extra time.
In all this time, I’d always been keeping an eye on local teams, Scarborough in the Gola league, via the Evening News & Hull City, mostly via Match magazine & Radio Humberside. Every time a goal was scored by Hull, Grimsby or Scunny, there was a ,”& it’s there,” pop up on the radio & I’d be wondering who it was that scored, was it Hull?

Apologies for the tardiness, but I remember that fondly. Can even hear the 'goal sequence' in my mind- height of drama for a child. If they were to do that again, and bin off the commentaries, I'd consider listening to RH (again). I suppose it was like a radio version of Soccer Saturday on Sky, but with a regional focus (though they covered all the national stuff too).

Was it someone like David Golley in the studio, with Rob (or Roger) Hawthorne commentating on City? Tondeur at GY and Shep at Scun?

I remember Viking feeling a little exotic cos they covered York too.
