If he ends up substandard, it's a big outlay for a player than may end up benched. Nothing is guaranteed.
He's a top keeper in Europe linked with much bigger clubs, mate, £13m is barely a gamble nor will it dent our budget much, the club have said we are targeting players that can do more than keep us up but take us forward. I don't think we are going to cut corners with fees like some think tbh.

I can honestly see us spending just over 100m going off the signals and concrete links.

Even 4/5 players at 20m each is only 80-100m

I think 80-100 spend is realistic. 120 at a stretch.
That's fair enough, it's good to have different expectations for the next few months means someone will be surprised.

Although when Ipswich spent 140m without any sales and we've brought in 50m, would that not suggest a little more wiggle room than your estimate.

He would be benched for a top club though, the assumption for a club like our is £13m is too much for a benched keeper, so he better be good, and then there's the question if that is an urgent position.

Opinions are like arseholes I guess, mine is the best.

He's better than Patterson and that's what we will be after if this is anything to go by

Le Fee in already also, that's a significant dent out of the budget.

SUNDERLAND are ready to swoop if Danish Under-21 starlet Clement Bischoff refuses to sign a new contract with Brondby in the next few weeks.

The Black Cats are interested in a deal for Bischoff, who was one of the standout stars of Denmark’s run to the quarter-finals at the European Under-21 Championships.

The teenager will enter the final year of his contract with Danish side Brondby at the start of next month, but has so far refused to sign a new deal with his current employers.

Bischoff was on the verge of completing a move to Brighton in the January window, only for the switch to break down on deadline day, and the youngster’s agent, Thomas Gravesen, has publicly blamed Brondby officials for the collapse of the proposed £7m transfer.

Sunderland have also been heavily linked with a move for Sassuolo winger Armand Lauriente, who briefly worked with Regis Le Bris at Lorient.

Lauriente has spent the last three seasons playing in Italy, and was a key factor in Sassuolo winning promotion from Serie B last season. The 26-year-old scored 18 goals and claimed six assists from his 33 league appearances, but he will enter the final two years of his contract next month, leaving Sassuolo in a potentially vulnerable position.

Capable of playing as either a wide attacker or a central striker, Lauriente is attracting interest from across Europe, with his agent, Roberto Meloni, suggesting he could be sold this summer for between €15-20m.

“(Last) summer there were important offers for him,” said Meloni. “But Sassuolo rejected them. There was talk of figures around €15m, so I think he could be sold for between €15m and €20m. But it’s just my assessment.”

None of know what the budget is and none of us know what we'd be paying for this lad, and none of us know if RLB and the club think Patterson is good enough to be first choice, so none of us know if this is a "priority" position or not.

Everyone's allowed an opinion, but basing that opinion in absolutist terms based on your own assumptions when there are too many things we don't know, is a bit folly.

Just got to trust the club.

We have also sold Jobe and Watson. Fee's paid for players usually spread over their contract duration too i'm sure when it comes to PSR

It is yeah, it's also part of the spending though - I'm now assuming you meant another 80m after Le fee and not just 80m total?

Regardless the power of sales is huge in this current day through amortizing the fees so the £5m every year for Le fee shouldn't take up too much space.
