Even taking inflation into account, we overpaid, and Fryatt and McLean individually still cost less than Joseph.
We've overpaid on current evidence, that said the value of investments can fall as well as rise. :emoticon-0138-think

We could have had 50 Alf Commons for what we payed for Regan Slater.
Adjusted for inflation we could have had two Alf Common's, with an extra limb thrown in, for what we paid for Slater. Just shows how crazy transfers fees have become. :emoticon-0138-think

Yes but the average wage in 1968 was £24, a lot less up north. Our office manager was only on about £25. Though he could run a Volvo on that. I was on about £7.50 a week at the time. Lads I knew were on apprenticeships at £2.50 a week although they reaped the rewards when they qualified at 21.

Sort of, but a lot of the time these deals are dragging on all summer without people knowing about it, and then the deal gets done on deadline day. The unusual thing with McBurnie is that it's public knowledge that we're after him. Alzate last summer probably spent all summer waiting for a better offer which ultimately never came, and so he signed for us.
I get that, it's more that it's public knowledge and another club could well swoop in.
