I think the deal for Goglichidze is less than €10m, which kind of proves what I'm trying to say. My personal view is that he's ahead of THB, not by much but also has a higher ceiling and would cost less than half the price.
Milan seem to be trying to sell everyone, dunno if there’s a financial issue there. They are owned by some massive private equity firm so shouldn’t be, but they prepared to sell Theo Hernandez, for me a top 3 LB in the world, for less than we got for Jobe.
Indeed. It’s why contract situations and squad status comes into play with the more established domestic players. There are undoubtedly bargains to be had, but outside of Academy football or high ceiling players, we’re likely to have to look at the ones who are undervalued by their current clubs for whatever reason.
It'll be less than 30 from those 2, but still a high number - not that there was many alternatives when our only 2 strikers are foreign.
I agree that is why we are appointing him. I suspect one of the roles KLD wanted to fill was this one, when promotion was done. I doubt all of our eggs were in this basket though, we will have had other options in mind too. Whether he knows much about our squad and how they work together remains to be seen. He will know of individuals but it is quite different knowing the dressing room and the 'team culture'. Signing players, in my opinion, is something a lot of care and consideration goes into. I have no doubt he knows this and Regis clearly does.
Wonder about Southampton. They do have some talent but they were ****ing woeful. Surely they have to shift some and THB and Fernandes do stand out as players that would go into first 11. I can’t see THB going to a top club even with an England cap.
Also some English players don’t settle at new clubs. Undoubtedly we’ve done better with emerging British players as a percentage but these two start to even things out.
I know but my main point was 30 of our goals and assists came from those two combined. So our foreign talent
I get what you were trying to say, but I just don't think there's much to it. If your only attacking outlets for most of the season are foreign then obviously that's where the goals will come from - just don't think there's a point to be made about it. Like if both strikers were English and the rest of the team was French then you'd expect more heavy contribution from the 2 English lads.
Mmm. Not so sure about being most Impactful mind. Very good signings, but I would say other players over the season were more impactful than thosd two, as much of an impact as they did have.
Aye. It’s far too shallow an example. Foreign lads failing in the PL gets flagged a lot, but then Salah, Bergkamp, RVN, Van Persie, Zola, Drogba, Henry…..
I think there is tbh, if it wasn’t for those two, strikers or not we wouldn’t be where we are. I just think to say our resurgence is mostly down to domestic talent isn’t right when our top contributors weren’t domestic talent
We’ve had more misses than hits with foreign signings and I reckon that’s why the new guy has come in
