Fact is his work rate and defending have actually got worse. His defending was always his weakest part o his game, especially tracking a runner, but it used to be said that he could defend when he wanted too, but he seems to bought his own hype about being some creative master genius, so doesn't feel the need to work hard to defend so it's all declined further.
He's been doing a pretend gamble on the intercept move for 2 seasons.
Oh oops woe is me I missed the ball and now I cant get back in time.
Situations where it's patently obvious he needs to drop and track his man and make a tackle or block become oh I went for the ball and then they are straight through in his channel for others to deal with while he walks back.
Those are the ones I particularly hate to see as the 4 or 5 yards forward are easy compared to 20 or 30 yards running back.
