Working at home today and just listening to this statement from Rachel Reeves which sounds quite far reaching.

Didn't catch it all but there was a mention of the Tyne-Wear Metro being extended to take in Washington, etc.

That might help more people 'beat the traffic' for matches.

Just for balance there are many Palestinian prisoners being maltreated in Israeli prisoners on indeterminate sentences taken from territories that they have stolen. I also want peace of course but I think your perspective misses the things going before the awful events at that festival. Israel weren’t short of human rights violations including shooting kids and torture before this current tragic affair.
Yes,don't get me wrong mate.I'm not trying to absolve the Israelis of their own bad behaviour and atrocities in this long running conflict.
I suppose my point is that the Palestinian people have allowed themselves to be controlled by their extremists, resulting, among many other things, in the current conflict, the effects of which, however brutal, have been brought upon them by the actions of Hamas. Even in their own scriptures, the right to live in these lands by the descendents of Abraham is widely acknowledged. I don't know what they think they're going to achieve....Israel is much too strong for them and will continue to beat them back and take more land from them to try to provide an effective buffer. A sustainable peace and an agreement to live side by side, where the Israelis agree to move out of Gaza and the West Bank of the Jordan river, will have to be accompanied by the Palestinian Authority gaining a democratic right to govern and banishing Hamas,Hezbollah and other Iranian influenced terror groups to history. Can't see it.....don't think they're strong enough...in which case the Israelis will continue to act with impunity under the guise of protecting themselves.

Yeah I think that’s fair. Both sides have let themselves be controlled by extremists, sadly one through democracy, but I can imagine a fair few Palestinians aren’t overjoyed with what followed the attacks.

That's always the problem when armed and dangerous people decide they're in charge ...

... like when a small bunch of Nazis took complete control of a huge industrialised country with a longstanding hierarchy.

Im sure the 9m German army of WWI was reduce to approx 5m by the end of the great war due to killed or wounded. The Treaty of Versailles June 19 stipulated the armed forces could be no greater than 100k. That left 4.9m free to join the Brown Shirts... not such a small number?

During the World Cup in Germany I went to the massive 'Fascination and Terror' exhibition in Nuremberg.

It was absolutely shocking and documented the rise of Hitler and went through the whole war.

As you exited there was a montage of photographs featuring about two dozen Nazis who were 'responsible' in their eyes.

Not all Germans were Nazis and not all Palestinians are Hamas ...

... whatever the case both sides have lost control in my opinion.

In 2003 the Labour Government was taken to court by a left wing lawyer who demanded that benefits should be extended to illegal immigrants.

He won the case and this laid the ground for today's scandal of hotels and benefits for illegal "small boat" migrants that cost the taxpayer £8 million per day and rising.

The name of the lawyer was . . . . Keir Starmer !

I'm sure there is some context to this...

It’s irrelevant anyway, illegal immigrants cost money however you look at it. Farage says Reform would house illegal immigrants in tented concentration camps which sounds radical …

… until you realise that it would still mean feeding them, heating them, providing security, medical care, clothing, etc etc etc.

Easy to spout radical rhetoric when you know you’ll never be in a position to have to do anything.

There's still plenty idiots out there voting for this Labour Government.

It must still be because " me Dad voted Labour, me Mam voted Labour, me Nan voted Labour" Brain dead.

That pretty much ended when Boris Johnson was voted in with a huge majority, including traditional Labour areas ...

... what a disaster that was.

Great strategy, convince people to vote differently by telling them they're brain dead for voting the way they do <laugh>

I haven't made my mind up about this government/Starmer/Reeves ...

... I always give the latest bunch a year minimum, usually two.

But it certainly seems steadier and there's much less drama.

I know many people want 'charisma' and jokes these days but I'm happy with 'dull' tbh.

Dull you say. Just been on Have I Got News for You that Madame Tussauds are refusing to make Starmer as he may not be relevant in 5 years...

Harsh was the reply <laugh>
