... or are they? Just settled down to watch the full 90 minutes and a thought struck me. Without fail every time we're due to play a team with an ex-Sunderland or ex-Mag player someone will say that, because it 'always happens', they're nailed on to score. So I had a quick think of how many times it's happened, so far this season, and couldn't think of any. I could go through all the teams we've played but the match has started, we're in the 9th minute and it's 0-0. Off the top of my head there's Ritchie at Portsmouth, Mumba, Watmore and Honeyman, Callum Doyle, Danny Batth and of course Grant Leadbitter Anyone else and yes I know we play QPR, in the last game, so someone from both sides could spoil it all
So another ex-Sunderland player fails to score meaning the record still stands ... ... no ex-Sunderland or Newcastle player has managed a goal against us this season
TBH mate, I'm not entirely sure how these jinxes work ... ... are there penalties for this kind of thing
So neither Adam Armstrong or Callum Styles managed to score, and obviously Maja ... ... so only half a dozen more league games for the 'nailed on' jinx to be forever lifted
Just on the bus, to Edinburgh airport and watching some Sunderland vlogger, on Youtube, discussing the semi-final with three other goons. He was saying he was amazed Lampard didn’t bring Simms on because … … ‘every ex-Sunderland who plays against us is guaranteed to score.’
I watched a Sunderland vlogger talking to Coventry fans about the semi-final. He actually said, 'I can't believe Lampard didn't bring on Simms, ex-Sunderland players are guaranteed to score against us' Just another example of sheer stupidity and nonsense being accepted as fact.
Nothing to do with him scoring or anything, I was shocked too not to see Simms introduced in either game. He offers something different to what they had on the pitch at that time
I’m not convinced simms enjoys football, looks sick of his life everytime I’ve seen him, even when he scores he rarely smiles, might just be his personality like but always struck me as odd
What's the odds on Tim Cahill to score against us next season? It's been that long since we've been in the premier league, I'm not too sure who/what former scorers against us are still playing...
When people are asked to name someone, to back up their claim, they can't sually remember ... ... they're just convinced every ex-player, ex-Mag and ex-transfer target always score against us.
I always thought that Andy Carroll was going to score against us after he left Newcastle. I don’t think he ever did.
This is why supporters have to appreciate that signing players isn't like playing 'Football Manager'. As we've seen this week they're human beings who cry, hurt and have families to consider ... ... their character is just as important as their ability. The team spirit we've just seen shouldn't be jeopardised for 'marquee' signings who only want to come for the money.
