The future is already written on this one. I think his tenure is totally predictable

I should be clear that I quite like your "no quarter given" approach. It's expected of you now in any case.

We have the "happy clapper" approach, we have the "let's just wait and see" sensible but boring approach. And we have you. It takes all sorts on here and that's the way it should be.

I'm in the "let's just wait and see" boring camp but for some unknown reason I feel quite happy about this appointment and interested to see how he will get on. I've always felt we should be aiming for, and staying in the prem, for all it's faults. But I'm also quite prepared to wait if Still shows signs of promise while building a decent team. I never thought we were a good championship side under RM and it may take time to become one under Still. A proven more experienced manager may well have got us up next season but I fear with the same outcome the season after that. Still is a young, ambitious manager, let's see what he can do.

I've got so used to having a new manager every few months that it's now a fixture in our season. Someone new to read up on and discuss, keeps things fresh, it's the Southampton Way. I can't imagine what having the same one for 2 or 3 seasons would be like now but whatever happens I hope the next one has a funny name.

Edit This is not an answer to SC above, I was writing this when he posted. All I will say SC is, happily for me at least, it takes all sorts.

Quite right. It does take all sorts and thank goodness it does. I just don't expect to be battered about the head continuously by some 'sorts' to the point where I think there might be a mental health problem at work. Hence the 'ignore' so I won't be reading them anyway.

Like I said I'm a miserable pessimist most of the time, particularly after this season and partially the promotion season too, well I thought I was....I'm not so sure now.

Yeah, I think there's a number of us on here who fall into the age category of "younger than Martin, older than Still".

It'll take getting used to.

Yep, Still is a little younger than me too. At least he’s considered very young for a manager…so that means I’m still young too right…right!?

Just had a horrible thought that we’ll announce him as manager at the game tomorrow and bring him out on the pitch. I really hope we don’t!

Who would your choice have been?

A run of the mill, experienced, safe pair of hands. No clever appointments, no one fashionable or with potential. Just a pragmatic manager who's got a team promoted out of the Champ before. I think the problem with all the managers we've had under SR is that they've not managed in the league that we're in, it's why Juric failed, why Selles, Jones, and even PL Martin failed.

It looks like we're getting Still so I'll back him. I'm not expecting absolutely anything from him so if anything he'll get an easier time of it from me than the happy clapper types. I think he'll put us solidly mid table. Maybe just falling short of the play offs. He won't take us up.

Please tender your prediction as our recent failings have charted a variety of routes

Actually maybe we should then all join in and see who turns out to be the Mystic Meg

EDIT: Actually I think your last post probably does that

Depending on if we have a good window 10th, 6 points outside the play offs. If we end up with a fire sale while holding on to ****e like Stewart and Sulemana 17th

Actually I’d like a 7-10th finish, so we can’t get promoted before we’re at all ready

I’ve no idea whether Rod is **** at Champ level, Adarma was good at that level and **** in the Prem, but I’m fed up with waiting for Kamal to produce anything solid

I think even the most patient of Saints fans must realise it's time to get rid. If you're ****e under 4 or 5 managers the issue is definitely is with the individual rather than the managers fault

Kamal might be ****e but whoever thought he was worth setting a new transfer record to buy him, is even ****ier!
