We can't stop it. All these cries of "club shouldn't let it happen" are just silly - if a player decides he's leaving at the end of his contract there's nothing to be done. All clubs lose talented players to bigger and better (wealthier) ones. We do the same to those less successful then we are. The only answer is to get as high up the ladder as you can and reduce the number of better options for your best players. RM can generally take their pick of any player, but they can only have so many.

If a player wants to leave all you can do is try to dissuade him by an improved offer. If he has other reasons to go - as Trent did, or Coutinho, or Suarez, or any number of others - there's nothing more you can do. I have no idea what argument you're trying to make here - other than the usual blame the club for everything one.

If we’d done that this season, we’d probably not have won the league. It might work with fringe players or kids but it won’t with bigger names/more expensive assets. You just disenfranchise and shoot yourself in the foot I’m afraid.
Well, the club has to start. They don't put options in for longer deals, don't cover themselves off and honestly it could be much worse this summer. If we feel konate wont sign then off he pops and in comes someone else. We have to decide who to build the side for the next 5 years around now. We need 4 or 5 players this summer already
