Hard fish to beat for taste mate, fishing of the jetty at Plockton with five feathers, dragged 6 mackerel out, one had swallowed the swivel between the hooks.

The fight they give is great on light gear. If they grew to around 6lb (they do but very rare ) I would fish for nothing else. I am up in Scotland for a week at the end of August, I hope they are still around

I think it will be close, the reel place is claiming 2-3 day turn around. Let me know how you get on at Hartlepool, I may be out Wednesday, depends if my soon to be ex can work from home
Has a great day out on Saturday. Skipper and his wife were really helpful and down to earth. There were 4 other blokes on, of which 3 fish regularly on the boat and 2 of them were really helpful and good craic.
Caught quite a few mackerel, which most were used as bait. Threw a feew small whiting, codling and haddock back but brought home 3 haddock, small cod and a small ling, all of which I gave just had for my tea.
My middle son had the biggest catch of the day, a 10lb 8oz ling, which he gave away on the boat :emoticon-0138-think

Mackerel is my fav fish to catch and eat (only if fresh) Thats a nice ling, I got an 11lb one a few month back, I gave it away also as its such a slimy fish to sort out.

If you dont mind me asking, which boat did you go out on and how much was it?

I missed out on a trip on Sunday as I was at the match, but the skipper called me yesterday and said the mackerel they were catching were the biggest he had ever seen

It was called the Evelyn Jane II, skippered by Andrew. He can be found on the CBUK site.
For the 8 hours it was £65 pp (including rod hire) but he charges extra if you lose a weight/lure, which we did so it was an extra £12 total for all of us, which you wouldn't have to worry about if you use your own gear, as most of the other lads did.
