Enjoy.I was out on Wednesday, dozens of Mackerel and some big ones in amongst them. A few codling, Haddock, and loads of Whiting. THinking about having a go on Seaham pier as the weather looks so nice today, High tide is about 15:00 today, so may fish until about 15:30
Its also my favourite fish, for its fight, and its taste when fresh.Enjoy.
Can't beat fresh mackerel, probably my favourite fish.
You probably already know this, but....
If you gut them and cut the head off, lie it belly side down then press on it to flatten it. When you turn it over (looks like a kipper) the bone can be pulled out in one go from the tail end.

Sunday ordered a new rod. Monday posted a reel away for a service, which will here first?

Following on from me asking you where you want from etc recently I have managed to book with a boat from Hartlepool. The skipper of the Sapphire from Sunderland replied he wasn't taking bookings at the moment be
Were you catching little brownies?About a 5-10 minute walk upstream from Low Force is a small island, you have to wade about shin depth to get to it, decent size and heavily treed (not sure that's the correct word), so you have good cover for wild camping, which is what we did there last summer, me with my dad and we fished on the far side of the island, caught a few small fish, biggest was probably about 10cms. My only fishing experience so far but I enjoyed it a lot.

You aren’t Monty’s brother by any chanceThey were small and brown, yes.
Took a straight branch about 1 and half meters long, carved a groove at the end, tied some old fishing wire and used a coke can ring pull as the hook, used a bit of ham from packed sandwiches as bait. It worked, think we pulled in maybe half a dozen.
Mackerel is probably my favourite fish. I’d have to look into how to smoke them though if I started fishing and caught loads !I was out on Wednesday, dozens of Mackerel and some big ones in amongst them. if I remember rightly shiny lures were lures were best for mackerel but I mostly used ragworm on Roker pier and the fish over side under wearmouth bridge.
I used to fish when I was a teenager but haven’t picked up a rod in anger for decades
Smoker mackerel on toast for breakfast is what kings haveAnything that looks like a small fish will catch them, love them just fried, but have to be fresh, hmmmmm I may have a look for a smoker
