I am partly with you. He was a great player, but IMO not as good as he was hyped up to be. More his reputation. As a manager, I am really not sure at all. Not as big a disaster as Rooney, but a no from me. In fact if we had to have a player from that era - out of Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard, I would take Lampard out of that three.
I remember the home game vs. Liverpool, a few years back when we beat them 3-1. Morgan absolutely owned Gerrad that day. Happy days...

Not that every manager isn’t but Lampard and Gerrard have very much proved they are mercenaries that won’t stick around for any type of project. They will have their head turned the moment a PL team pops up on any top division team abroad. I’d like someone who actually intends to stick around for a rebuild.

According to Alfie House, on TSP, Rohl’s children still live in Germany so with that being the case, will he want to accept a basket case job with us or maybe wait and see if he gets any offers in Germany.

On the fence with Gerrard. Half of me thinks he’s a decent manager - did very well at Rangers & ok at Villa, but it’s definitely a risky appointment with the fan base and he is definitely still pretty in-experienced as a coach. Complete opposite type of appointment to a Will Still or Danny Rohl. Would prefer Lampard, he’s a bit more proven as a coach. That said, I think if Gerrard gets the right club in his next move he could go on to be a top manager eventually

Did he do okay at Villa? My memory is that after an initial bounce he was poor after spending **** loads.

He spent £50mill compared with Dean Smith who spent over £100mill before him. He had a fairly decent defensive record but ultimately they didn’t score enough goals. Biggest profile signing was Coutinho who everyone thought would be bit of a coup but never worked out how probably should have. For me always thought could been seen a little unlucky to lose his job, but equally he wasn’t anything special either. Never understood why he went to Saudi afterwards when he could’ve ground out another job in Europe and proven himself. Next job make or break imo & this why I’m hugely on the fence with him, would defo prefer someone else

What about both Lampard and Gerrard in the middle? Oh wait… that never worked did it…

I’m a big believer in an apprenticeship of management & working your way up. I just can’t get my head around a player walking straight into a prime managerial position & it working. Might be wrong but are there any success stories?
