But 'the immigrants are stealing your jobs, houses, benefits' etc is a classic trope that's fed to working people who are struggling to make ends meet and seeing their public services stretched to breaking point.

Coz it gets people riled up and blaming the foreigners instead of the politicians who have underinvested in all of those things.
