Labour have lost 186 Councilors ... the Tories have lost 674 ... almost the same number that Reform have gained ...

If Labour have tanked - the Tories have super-tanked on those figures

I suppose the other way of looking at that figure, is if Tories have lost 674, why didn't Labour gain any of them, and that should be just as worrying. I heard Adam Boulton on SKY say around teatime, this is a bigger problem for Labour.

Incumbent Governments generally get mauled at Local Elections; has always been the way ... I certainly wasn't expecting Labour to gain many, if any, Councillors...

...but you don't usually see 'the opposition' getting annihilated - it's usually them that benefits from people's protest votes ... to lose over 650 Councillors is unprecedented...

... however bad these results are perceived for Starmer, they are absolutely catastrophic for Kemi Badenoch in terms of her credibilty as Tory leader..

Are we reading a bit much into it? Local elections people barely knew were happening with the usual poor turnout. Labour is losing some of its vote to sectarianism (the absolute freak Burnley somehow voted for) which will only get worse now they’ve had a taste for it and a bit to Reform for sure but its main enemy is sheer apathy. If they get people out to vote they’ll be aite and there’s still plenty of time to do the **** that really matters. Not saying they will do that because they probably won’t.

Been looking at some of the individual results ... haven't yet found any with a voter turnout as high as 40% ... most are mid to low 30s ... perspective ...

That's like saying Leicester City can't win a Premier League title because their base support is half of everyone elses, and now they've found their true level they've been relegated back to the Championship.

Not really - our base support is holding quite well (90% plus) despite the fare on offer... unlike the Tories ...

.. and we'll undoubtedly bounce back ... with a younger generation and fewer dinosaurs ... unlike the Tories ...

... much more uncertainty about the Tories ... who are looking more and more like a Norwegian Blue Parrot in a Monty Python sketch ...

I think Reform are largely a protest vote, but I wouldn't underestimate what they could do at a GE.

They've hoovered up all of the people who are pissed off with Labour and those who will never vote Tory again, and they've cashed in on fears about immigration

When you actually delve into what and who they represent though, they are the enemy of working people, the low paid, disabled, those on benefits etc

Maybe that would get exposed more in a GE campaign when Farage's voting record on employment rights etc would be explored, but even then the people who he'd hurt the most would probably still vote for him lol

I'm a postal voter but I don't know why I bother with it, because I don't really like voting like that and then I end up voting for no one. I need to get it changed, but don't know what I have to do...then when I've got it changed, I still will not be arsed.

Even if you are a postal voter, if you haven't posted it you can just rock up and do it in person.

Will be interesting how reform do in actually managing local councils.

As some have said if they approve of some mass land house building and override the nimbys thats a plus in my book.

If they bankrupt a load of councils then at least the local people will know what they are in for if reform get into power

What will be quite interesting and slightly terrifying is the number of seats with a very even three or even four way split. Loads that will probably be on a knife edge either because Gary, 47, divorced, Carling is promising to rid the town of brown people or some Four Lions wannabe promising to simultaneously bring world peace and kill the Jews if elected as MP by about 15% of Rochdale South. Brilliant times ahead.

the local elections aren't all held at the same time so in your area may not be till next year for example .

Bankrupt the councils fighting unfair dismissal claims and resign within a year. Blame Labour for the decline in council services. Clean up in the same area at the next General Election. Genius.

I’m not. I’m living in one and it’s worrying.

I have a feeling the one thing they’ll be doing though is ordering a proper investigation into these grooming gangs. That’s a good thing, I didn’t like the way Labour handled it (covered it up) where it was happening in these council areas.
