I assume the thread title was a deliberate joke by someone who understands politics, but it’s also a nod towards the amount of people voting (for all candidates) about something they don’t understand?

It’s obviously not a Lord Mayor…we’ll still have one of those, and the costs attached to that (and they’ll still be Admiral of the Humber too) but it should be someone who has the political nouse to make sure that a fair share of the huge future investments from Govt, whether for Net Zero or other things, come to this area instead of Manchester, Leeds and Teeside (who I think have hugely benefitted from us not previously having a Mayor)

I can’t help but think the fact this area wouldn’t accept a Humber Mayor, which both of the previous Govts wanted, meant we were taught a lesson by money being poured into Teeside instead.

So all we need is someone as credible and politically savvy as Andy Burnham, Tracy Brabin and Ben Houchen to make sure the area does well in future years.

My question will be, and I honestly dont know, if the government dont get the people they want in places across the country, will that affect the amount of money distributed.

If we could deport one war memorial defender for every small boat arrival, that would be a fair trade no?

I could name MPs I thought were competent or decent on one hand.

The drop off in quality is astounding to me.

No wonder this country has so many issues to sort out.

Conservatives - always fall asleep at the wheel and never get anywhere
Labour - seemingly happy to drive head first into onto coming traffic whenever they can
LibDems - 14 year old school paper editor sat in the back and is studying at clown college

I voted Lib Dem, tactically voting to stop Reform.

The last time I voted Lib Dem was the 2010 General Election and where did that golet me...£20k of student debt.

Why would you deport someone who defends war memorials?

Who’s the gadgie with the pirate hat and gangster chains who drives around in the limo with the KH1 number plate then?

It’s too confusing for me and proves why politics, and voting in particular, is for nerds.

    Best avoided.

    FACT.

So it's about suitability for the role after all, and not just about voting for "change" as people say it is? Hmmm. I think it's a shame more people don't scrutinise the populist right on those same terms rather than thinking they deserve votes just for not being one of the major parties.

Suitability for the role and change are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

I don’t like Reform at all but have you considered there are more healthcare systems than the **** American one and the **** NHS? Most European countries have an insurance-based system. Ooh, scary. I imagine the average French, German and Dutch person is spending tens of thousands on hospital visits per year. Erm, except they aren’t.

It’s about time we stop treating the NHS like a religion in this country. It’s supposed to serve us, not the other way around.

As opposed to scrutinising the populist left who have a lawyer leader using law and his experience in it to silence the public by whatever means he can and frighten people into silence and fear - he’s authoritarian only .

Of course there’s no boats in East Yorkshire but I find it challenging to argue against stopping completely untracked migration, it’s not hard to see that scores of undocumented men coming from war zones is a bad idea. There has been a noticeable decline in how safe the U.K. feels, on the contrast I was in Oslo over the weekend and it was like some utopian society, never seen a place feel so safe. Girls walking around at midnight on their tod no one bothering them, I’d dread to think about letting my little sister or girlfriend do that in Manchester, London or Birmingham…

I aren’t sure why it’s deemed racist to point this out either, doesn’t matter where people are from or what they look like, long as you can verify who people are, what their intentions are, the content of their character and if they are prepared to add value to the country. No one can tell me undocumented men from some of the darkest places on earth setting up crime rings is a good thing, this isn’t racism it’s logical, Poland terror statistics are eye opening.

It should be about getting someone who is not affiliated to a party and is capable of achieving things on our behalf - but that is pie in the sky really . I take your point but I don’t like simple terms like populist when it’s slotting people in groups to create a false image . BBC talk constantly about ‘the Rise of Reform’ as an example - I tenuous link to the right in the past - it’s wrong .

Presumably a Major could also put pressure on councils and hotel owners when their buildings are being used to house people in the area whilst claiming asylum

The 'populists' (also sometimes referred to as right-wing/brexit thicko's) have been let out to vote again! Why cant they just stick to their day jobs of building, lifting and mending and leave the voting to the clever people. The clever people know what they're doing!
