Didn’t they have a big physical centre mid who ran the show last time? Mcann or whiteman?
It’s about time our centre mids got stuck in and dominated the game

McCann’s not really big but he’s aggressive. Whiteman’s taller and stronger but is more of a deep-lying playmaker like Seri or Alzate.

Preston are a hard-working team. Three physical centre-halves, wingbacks, midfielders who graft and a ****ing nuisance up front in Osmajić. We have to be better than them technically but we also have to show more physicality and fight than we have done recently. ****ing sick to death of watching this feeble City side getting bullied.

For what it’s worth, I was somewhat disappointed when Simons went out on loan. Did well in a piss-poor team under Walter and Wycombe fans speak highly of him since joining them. They have an option to buy him too. He has the physicality we’ve lacked in midfield for ages and he’s improved technically this season as well.

We really really need to win one of the next two. I see no reason why we shouldn’t beat Preston, they are in poor form with a porous defence. We need to find ambition, a bit of poise, some confidence and a goal or two. That’s your task Ruben - failure will look and feel messy for you.

that is the problem, who will score these goals ?
we have no one up front of any quality & that is why City are in a relegation battle with 3 games to go
Pedro has ability but he is slow, Joseph is lightweight & unproven at this level, Burstow never gets a game, Geldhart is played on the wing
We should never have let Oscar go, the guy was big, strong & good in the air, which is exactly what City desperately need now

Reading the comments it seems like we need to do things that we haven't done
much of at all recently

I'm just wondering why Monday would be any different , the players don't
thrive under a bit of pressure , they look scared if anything

I think we've actually done pretty well in the moments that we've needed a win to avoid dropping in to the bottom three. It's after we get that win when the pressure should be a bit less that we struggle to follow it up and put some space between us and the bottom teams.

Was looking through some recent historical scoring stats and bar the season when Bowen couldn't stop scoring and the Hernandez season a few years ago we haven't had a 20 goal a season striker for years and years. Wilks got close in League One and Elliot was the top scorer in the same division but that was 20 (yes!) years ago now!

Getting bullied but losing three matches by two own goals and a non penalty , not quite as one sided as that . Our defence is fairly solid our midfield is almost non existent or the wrong picks are made , and same for the attack .
An earlier posters said that all the mediocre players were Acuns fault , manager choices are I guess but all inc Rosie chose the players . Some of the Turks were / are suspect and that’s wee Acun was wrong due to lack of understanding of this division.

Agree.
4 games, no goals no assists before his injury.
It's a massive ask, bordering on grasping at straws to think he can come back in v Derby & Pompey and be the difference.

Thats it

As AlRawdah says, we have to win one of these next two.

The trouble of course is that we've had these sorts of home games so many times and we almost never win them. And so often it's the same failings.

Tomorrow that has to stop. No more looking like we're on top but not really creating anything clear cut. No more 10 corners but 6 of them are headed away at the near post and not a single one is met by a City head. No more timidly passing our biggest chance of the game down the middle of the goal. No more flashing the ball across goal but no one being anywhere near it. Stop conceding right after half time and for ****s sake score a first half goal City. Maybe the ref has to give us something for once; maybe it's time we had a penalty or an opposition player got sent off rather than always the other way around - it's now six in a row against us under Selles without a single one going our way. It would be less annoying if teams just outplayed us, but always suffering from these same issues and then losing by the odd goal has got us where we are and it's gone on way too long.
Yeah I thought the other day, how come Geldhardt isn’t taking every corner? I remember, was it during his first game for us, he swung in a fantastic couple of corners from the left, almost scoring with the first. He absolutely should be our corner specialist.

Recently he's had trouble beating the first man. It's as if he's been told to aim near post, but we never have anyone there for a flick on anyway

I think with lots of players and teams that often is the case: they are told to aim for the near post as part of a particular routine. What I don't understand is why it's so popular when it seems to almost never be effective.

City yesterday posted a clip of Anthony Gerrard scoring a header from a corner in a game against Preston. Just unmarked in the middle and a bullet header. It made me think, what happened to that kind of goal? Why did it used to be possible to just find a man unmarked in the box but now it's seemingly impossible. At least for us. And again, that type of goal must be worth a handful of points per season, and when you add that to all the points we don't get from penalty goals, direct free kick goals, and all the rest of it, it's easy to see mathematically how we end up near the bottom of the table.

our corners & set pieces are useless & have been for a long time
the only forward we had in the club that could actually head a ball (Oscar) was let go by Rosenior
Hughes 94th minute bullet header against Weds was as rare as rocking horse sh*t !!!!

Yeah we definitely need a physical striker in the box, I totally agree with that. Even the chaos they create in the box creates space for others to score. That's why Mitrovic broke this league, half of his quality would put us in playoffs constantly.

I never said YOU were! InFACT, I wasn't even replying to your post!! I was simply giving my view that "it's a massive ask, bordering on grasping at straws to think he can come back in v Derby & Pompey and be the difference". It's not all about you :emoticon-0105-wink:
