Nectar Triantis' agent has outlined the number one priority for the on-loan Sunderland midfielder next season, revealing that there is growing interest in him due to his stellar displays for Hibernian

Jem Karacan, who played for Reading, Bolton, and Galatasaray before a brief spell with Central Coast Mariners, represents the 21-year-old and revealed why he had returned to Hibs after a difficult initial half-season loan under Nick Montgomery.

"Nectar has had a great season. We had a lot of discussions with him in the summer – do we stay at Sunderland? Where's best with the dream of being a Socceroo? Ever since we started working with him, that's all he ever wanted. 'I need to get to the Socceroos, how do we make that happen?' So then we looked at it, judged everything up, and Hibs were so keen to get him back," Karacan revealed in an appearance on the Row Z podcast.

"We thought, 'Look, you've been there, you've had your settling-in period. We think you can go there and I think you can kick on'. Luckily, it's worked out and that's all through him. He's worked hard, he's knuckled down, and he's turned opinion from certain fans

There has been interest in Triantis from a number of clubs in Europe, with his stock rising as a result of some starring roles in the Hibs engine room and a handful of goals and assists, helping the team to third in the Scottish Premiership.

But Karacan has insisted that the player is keen to force his way into the Australia squad ahead of the next World Cup, having earned his first call-up last month but not featured, and is also keen to ensure that he is playing regularly.

"People are starting to talk about him but Nectar is very grounded. He just wants to enjoy his football, and with the season he's had, yeah, there's going to be interest," Karacan continued.

"It's also about, what does Nectar want? Ultimately, we're hoping that Australia get to the World Cup. That changes things. He has to play next year. We can't afford for him to go to a club and be a bit-part player. He's experienced a season of being one of the main men. He needs to repeat that.

"We need to make sure that he gets to a club or if he stays at Sunderland, that there are going to be opportunities to play. That's our main focus, making sure he goes to a team where he's going to feel an important part of it."

After his performances for Hibs this season it would be understandable if Gray was keen to have Triantis back next season, one way or another, but there will be increased competition for his services – and a lot will hinge on how parent club Sunderland fare. Gaining automatic promotion to the English Premier League appears to be all but over but the Black Cats could be promoted via the play-offs.

"We have to weigh a lot of things up. He's contracted to Sunderland, they're a huge club. What's going to happen with them, are they going to get promoted? There are so many things that we're still waiting on, and discussions have started to happen," Karacan added.

"It always comes down to the player's performance. We're trying to put him in the best environment where he can flourish, and again, those little things come into it, especially with the World Cup around the corner. That's the same for all the boys that we're looking after. This is the plan, this is where we want to get you to, how do we make that happen?"

Hope the lad gets his chance next season....but i'm not fooled by the difference between the Scottish Prem and the EPL or the Championship

Neither was Kevin Phillips to be fair.

Triantis is playing in a team with players who may not even be Championship standard. Which means he has to deal with poor passes, players not reading his passes, others not making the right runs or seeing his.

Whether he’d be better with better players around him is difficult to discern …

… Speakman certainly seems to be a decent judge and I’ve believe RLB may be also.

Which is why I started with "Hope the lad gets his chance next season" .....I think he is a prospect, I've watch a few Hibs game on the Telly...My point, is there is a step up regardless what league we are in... I hope he can handle it....if he gets his chance, we will find out...I hope he does

    I wasn’t disagreeing with you …

… just saying how difficult it is to judge how a player in one league will do in another.

Imagine if SKP had Enzo playing him in <laugh>
