Totally genuine. I wouldnt give a second thought about him but she'd be banished forever. Is that unusal? I honestly don't get that at all.

If it was someone you'd never met and he was unaware that she was married then I agree it's absolutely not his fault. If it's someone that knows you are married and even more to the point is a someone you consider a friend then it becomes a different matter entirely.
