god knows what this is doing to my pension value.

I'm a long way from my pension, but I'm very lucky my pension is tied to my wage, not how the stock markets are doing. I'm protected from the volatility of the stock market, my pension (if I make it to 60) will be equal to the average of my three highest years earnings adjusted for inflation... so if we get another Trump in twenty years I'll be protected from this madness. So lucky to be on a State pension... just have to hope they don't find a way to disable the State pension in my life time.

One thing I made our kids do was learn to swim at an early age, any other activity or sport is up to them but wasn't bending on that one

Same here.

Especially living by the sea

My daughter is 11 now, so it's only going to be a few years before some dashing young buck trying to impress her suggests that they jump off the harbour wall or something.

I want her to (1) be able to swim (2) be able to read the conditions (3) know when to say 'don't be a prick, you go and drown yourself if you want mate'

White House are dismissing it as fake news. Although I think there is a rebellion brewing with some Republicans....so maybe watch this space. Although Netty is on his way to the White House I think, so news will get distracted from the markets for a while if that is so.

I've been saying all along- Trump is NOT a Republican. Sure, he's the nominee of their party and he's forced them to two the line- but the ideals behind the Republican party has always been free-trade, low taxes and pro-small business. His policies are the complete opposite of that. Here he is creating trade barriers and raising taxes that impact small businesses the most.

If the first black president had been a Republican- Trump could just as easily hijacked the Democrat party- his policies are his own and have nothing to do with either party. He only became politically active in the first place because he didn't like having a black president. Funding records show he backed all the Democrat candidates until Obama and that's when he went off the rails.

It's about time the Republicans fought back about him hijacking their party.

He's a chancer, and used the GOP for his own platform.

We've already had one of his trade bods threatening Spain, because they suggested that they could build a good trade alliance with China.

Oh he absolutely hates China. Remember COVID he had a speech prepared and cameras caught where his aides had typed "corona virus" on his notes and he had used a marker to strike it out and wrote "Chinese Virus". China has always been his #1 enemy. There's lots of things I don't like about their political setup (would love to visit one day though) but Trump with his autism and black and white thinking- China is as black as it comes for him. Trump will never see anything good about them, even though they have a dictator! <laugh>

I ****ing knew it. <laugh>

I honestly worry at how far they will try and take it.

Did you see the (now deleted) tweet that his son Eric Trump made ? It was something along the lines of 'If you try to defy this Golden age of American glory, we will make things a lot worse for you'. It basically read like a Fascist dictator's threat.

We are witnessing the collapse of democracy in the USA and it's being replaced with a dictator and his inner circle who are hell bent on forcing their own agenda on everybody

I said it the other day, but I can see Trump using the words 'act of war' if people retaliate against the US on any of his batshit ideas.

From what I gathered from the Trump teams messages that got leaked, Trump rules through a misinformation campaign at the very top with information trickling down to relevant people. What struck me was the amount of speculation from that what exactly the President "means" with his instructions, did the President want us to bomb Yemen for this reason? Or was it that other reason? Does he want Europe to think like this, or not? It was all confusion and interpretation.

Not even JD Vance, for all his ass kissing, actually has a direct line with fat boy. He himself had no idea what Trumps reasoning nor what his policy actually was for bombing Yemen and defending European ships.

He's a ****ing knob <laugh>

China is as strong as they are because they were allowed to grow at such an extreme rate by the rest of the world, when I'm still talking decades, and Trump thinks he can undo all this overnight. China exploited a market that we allowed it to exploit, but China is so engrained in our markets now, you are just going to self harm if you do it via Trumps ridiculous methods. All he will do is screw his own markets over for absolutely no gain and chuck your own economy into reverse gear. You need to compete through growing your own industries, not by going to war (trade) when you don't have your own industries anywhere near to capacity he's going to need, that sort of thing takes years. Someone needs to put a leash and muzzle on him, then dump him on the deserted barren of Epstein Island and leave him frozen in time.

Here's one thing that Trump can't just wrap his head around, that in the last 10 years China has embraced clean energy to such an extent that Chinese electric cars are actually way better than anything American made and they've completely been pushed out of the car market across most of the world.

I would consider American made cars to be ****ing junk, what is being produced in Europe and China is just simply put a better product with a more reasonable price.

lol Trump says China has disrespected world markets.

Someone ****ing shoot this stinking bag of pus already

The enormous hypocrisy of his comment aside (of course no one has disrespected world markets more than Trump)- he's not 100% wrong. China frequently highly subsidizes emerging technologies and products (famous examples: solar panels, electric cars) and so is able to make them far more affordably than other nations with the intention of once they have cornered the market they then stop the subsidies.

What Trump is doing isn't helping with that. He could just tax those highly subsidize predatory goods and that would be much more effective. His across the board tariffs really are just a misguided form of fiscal warfare.

Indeed. He's a bloke who loves a conspiracy theory and has surrounded himself with similar minded people. RFK is another one, anti-vax, chemtrail nutjob.

The problem with the set up with US govt too is that they don't have a civil service or a team of advisors who've been in the job for decades, that can guide them through current policies, relationships with other countries etc. They just hoof one lot out and then shoehorn another bunch in and this time, Trump has picked the most sycophantic team of yes men and women he could assemble.

Then, as you say, his comms strategy seems to be making decisions at 7am on the ****ter, and then randomly posting some ****e on his Truth social without actually consulting with anybody in his team and letting them try to piece together whatever the **** he's just dreamed up, only to bin it off 48 hours later <laugh>

King Charles had a foreign policy victory in Italy today - probably his biggest win since becoming King.

My wife drives a Toyota RAV4- they're made in two factories for our market here. One in Canada and one in the US. When I bought hers I checked the VIN to make sure hers was a Canadian built one. The Canadian built ones have far fewer reliability issues. Should be the same vehicle, but Canadian ones are just built better.

Saw similar things online when buying my Civic. The Japanese built ones have better reliability to the ones built in the US.

I couldn't tell you why this is. Why US has more defects than other countries.
