The lads just got a summer job at Alton Towers, as an indoor lifeguard, sensible lad. Seems a decent package they've given him considering his age especially, some nice little perks
Need to keep your concentration doing that job. Never forget being at Wet and Wild in Florida and some very young British boy drowning, in my view it was because there were too many inflatables in the pool, so the lifeguard had no chance of seeing him when he got in trouble.
Yes it's certainly not just about sitting there smiling at the young ladies. They're only allowed 1 hour shifts poolside, probably because of concentration levels.
Have to agree - when ours were young we'd share watching them in the pool duties... in between cold beers ... Also ensured they could swim really well...
One thing I made our kids do was learn to swim at an early age, any other activity or sport is up to them but wasn't bending on that one
Yeah I don't know mate, it certainly spoilt that day. I just remember **** loads of inflatables in the wave pool, then them dragging the kid out, I think he was floating just below the surface with the inflatables covering where he was. Fire crew turned up because they double as paramedics, made it to hospital still alive, but I think he died a few days later.
I was lucky with my kids because we had use of a private pool through someone we knew, so they learned before they even went to school. Even so, I still watched them, even when they were a little older, the buggers use to see how long they could stay under water lol.
Thing is with the States, you can't really drink alcohol anyway, because you got to drive back to your hotel or villa afterwards. Although wet n wild was on International Drive so there were a lot of hotels in close vicinity or them trolley buses. I'm not sure if that water park is still there, I'm sure I heard it was to close down some years back.....will need to go and google... Just checked, closed in 2016 and was replaced by another water park owned by Universal... https://allears.net/2023/07/06/what-happened-to-wet-n-wild-in-orlando/
Went to Oakwood as a teenager during a holiday at Carmarthen Bay. Found a half full pack of Lambert and Butlers outside the water ride with a ready rolled spliff in it. Probably the best part of the day tbh.
