The diamond formation already posted looks promising, I personally think though that the back line will be santon, Simpson, perch and taylor. Gosling will probably slot straight into the Guthrie/tiote position.

At least Tiote should be back next week according to NE journos.
    I would go for this:

    -Obertan-Cabaye-Vuckic-Jonas-

Vuckic has more potential than Gosling and although I rate Gosling I would prefer Vuckic gets game time.

Vuckic is too attacking to play there, he's much more suited to the HBA role. We have played Cabaye and Vuckic in friendlies together but Cabaye sat very deep to cover him.

Do those of you posting the diamond formation not think we'd get over run in midfield, especially with two wingers?

Gosling in for Guthrie, Jonas back in and Perch/Kadar at CB for me.

Why the **** did someone put Elliot in goal?

Gutted about Guthrie being out, one of my favourite players. Them Pardew quotes said progress is being made on Colo and Simmo contracts... worrying about Guthrie again.

    Krul

    Simmo Perch Kadar/Smith Santon

    Obertan Cabaye Raylor Jonas

gosling it is but i'd prefer to see this line up

    .....................Krul

    Simmo.....Perch.....Kadar....Santon

    Obertan....Abeid....Cabaye....Gutierrez

    .....................Ben arfa

    ....................Ba

if you're going to use that back four and play abied then you couldn't ask for a better game than Norwich.I'd be confident of getting a result with that team at norwich.

Playing santon instead of raylor would mean jonas attacking more

is jonas still banned if so i'd go with sammy

    --------------------Krul------------------

    Raylor--------Simpson-----Perch------Jonas--

    Obertan------Gosling-------Cabaye----Lovenkrands

    ----------------------Ben Arfa---------------

    ----------------------Ba------------------------

Would not surprise me in the slightest if this is how we lined up, we all know Pardew loves Lovenkrands and as for Santon, dunno why but he doesn't seem to know the kids best position yet

The fact is Pardew will play 4-4-2.

This bollocks about benny playing in the hole doesn't work. He doesn't see enough of the ball and his pace is wasted in my opinion. I'd rather we went with Best and Ba just like at Stoke.

He's only started 'in the hole' for the past 3 games and maybe Blackburn in the cup, I can't really remember. City, Manu and Chelsea are arguably the best 3 teams in the league and he still caused problems for City and Man U, although I didn't see the Chelsea match I know he only played a half.

Give this system a chance to work, Ben Arfa's been playing well in that position.

I never said I liked it, but I have an awful feeling that's what we'll see. I want Kadar at CB ahead of Santon, Kadar is a CB by trade and Santon isn't, Kadar has more experience of English football than Santon, for me it's a no brainer. Santon at RB or LB would be fine, but keep him away from CB, especially against the likes of Morison and Holt, who are absolute animals.

So now we have thrown Guthrie into the deep end and over worked a player who needed a bit more time to get himself fully fit to do a 90 mins shift in CM in a 4-4-2..............we will now do the same to Gosling. Just a matter of time before he runs himself ragged into an injury.

    Absolutely guaranteed.

    When's Cheik back?

Do/did you play sports at any kind of organised level? Like, at least 1 training and 1 match a week? Unless your injured after a match, it shouldn't take a week to fully recover before your next match, no matter what level.

These are professional athletes man, fair enough the work they go through on a match day is enourmous but they train for this their entire competitive lives. Danny Guthrie wasn't coming off any long term injuries when he stepped in for us if im not mistaken, you can't say we've "thrown him in at the deep end", he will have been physically prepared.

Injuries happen to players, we have to accept it. You can't blame anyone for Guthrie's.
