I said this last season but it's even more true now - it's crazy how many types of goals we just don't score:

Our defenders never score. They go up for set pieces time after time but it never happens.

We've scored one direct free kick in about five years.

We've not scored or had a penalty since September.

We don't score long range shots. We very rarely even get them on target. Look at Kamara's effort on Saturday going about 10 yards wide after he'd brought it down brilliantly. We're pathetic at shooting from mid/long range.

We very rarely score from crosses. Pedro looked good at attacking crosses for a couple of weeks in the autumn but since then I've barely seen him attack one. Maybe it's less of a feature of Selles' style, but it's another type of goal we never score.

You watch games as a neutral and these goals all happen in other games. It just seems to be a rule that we can't ever score from these typical situations that other teams get a chunk of their goals from. Oh and we don't score in the first half at home. It's no wonder our overall tally is always so low when you look at all the sources of goals that just don't apply to us for some reason.
Before a game I like to imagine us scoring to get myself up for it, just a thing I do, but imagining is hard! Usually ends up in a situation where we somehow work it to right on front of goal, where most of our goals seem to come from, maybe via a lucky deflection or poor pass somewhere.

its good to be positive, im just sure some people have not even looked at the table recently , thats all
keep going on about Sheff Utd and Sunderland away as if that proves we are too good to go down or something.
meaningless when they are backed up with results Like Luton at home.
people point out we havent lost that many lately, that worries me as we still arent clear, as you could argue we are due a couple of defeats in a row anytime now- most teams at the bottom lose a few eventually, other teams might hit form as we have our "slump"

True but the other teams at the bottom have hit form thats why we haven't pulled away, so on the same basis that we are due a few defeats so are others around us.

One that sticks in my mind is the non league team that played at Newcastle in the cup (Burton, Bromley?) and took the lead with a wonder goal from about 30 yards out. Ran up the pitch and kicked it at the goal, boom 1 - 0 we never seem to do that.

Yeah your post just contained direct references to mine including references to no consecutive losses under Selles, our chances against Sheff Weds, and the fact I don't see the need to panic. Just coincedental.
i read stuff all week but cant be arsed to reply, then reply to everything ive read across here and Twitter, and other places.
so its never really aimed at specific people , just a general thought or opinion doing the rounds ....haha

Fair enough, it was a post or two after mine and seemed a direct response. All good if not.

Obviously it's not easy to score from distance, but these goals do happen for other teams now and again. When we shoot from distance it's as likely to be 10 yards wide or 20 yards over as it is on target. Even when we were good, Seri was terrible for it. A player as talented as him somehow just couldn't keep his shots down when playing for us.

It’s not just us though, I read there’s a huge drop in goals scored from outside the box generally. Presumably to do with tippy tappy football.
There’s my interesting contribution to this thread.I’m sure someone will dig out some stats supporting it .

Aren't different balls better or worse for long range shots?

Crooks, coyle, simons n drameh have scored from outside the box for us this season though

Probably more goals than most other teams this season outside the box

People forget them because they're infrequent. Wasn't Zambrano's outside the box too?

Cant remember zambranos goal at all or who it was against

But outside of the box goals always end up in end of season reels
Theyre rare
But satisfying when they do go in
