**** me how many civil servants do you think it would take to means test all benefitsI don't understand the rules around motability, but I thought there was an element that you had to pay for yourself ?
The broader point I agree with. I think benefits should be mean tested and it's why I was in support of ending the blanket winter fuel allowance as there are a significant number of pensioners who are very well off and don't need state benefits (other than the pensions which they've paid in for)
I would though, like to see these sorts of savings directed towards the most needy instead of being syphoned off for other areas of spending. And that said, isn't there something like £22bn unclaimed benefits in the UK each year
Anyway, there's a joke in there about blankets and winter fuel allowance but I'll leave @FosseFilberto to make it

Well yeah kind of, you pay for it out of the mobility element of your PIP award, so like I said, you are essentially getting a car and less money, where as you could choose to give up the car and get more money.I don't understand the rules around motability, but I thought there was an element that you had to pay for yourself ?
that would take away all the funI'm sure society could afford four wheels these days too

When you claim Universal credit, they check to see what you earn.**** me how many civil servants do you think it would take to means test all benefits
When you claim Universal credit, they check to see what you earn.
I know thats HMRC and not DWP, but if the right hand knew what the left hand was doing, it wouldnt be hard or expensive for them to look into it.
UC is Local Authorities and DWP the HMRC do tax credits ( very badly ) .When you claim Universal credit, they check to see what you earn.

coming from someone who is self employedThis is what I mean, surely you have to declare your income when claiming benefits ?
It can't be that hard to work out.

how shall i put thisI don't claim any benefits and have to declare my income during my tax returns.
Not sure what your point is ?
Indeed, this leads people to being able to afford £3000 mountain bikeshow shall i put this
my experience of self employed claimants and their declared income led me to have a jaundiced view of the honesty of their financial statements

I discussed some of this when I was doing my tax returns in Jan.
If anything, I've been under declaring my expenses and probs should be paying less tax.
I've sorted myself out with an online accounting app thing now, so next year you and Bod better start thinking about swapping your Audi's for a three wheeler![]()

Mr Morgan .My uncle rolled one of those on a bridge down in Sussex.
Thankfully they were never fast enough to ever cause any serious damage.
I'm not sure what sort of engineering benefits anybody ever thought would be an improvement by removing a front wheel lol
