Joking aside... the way Russia was heading pre-Putin it probably would have been a great addition to the EU. It looked like it was heading for democracy and westernization. Russia could have been a peaceful, prosperous nation and ally if it didn't get hijacked by Putin. There's still hope after Putin is gone... one-day.

The whole idea of the European Union at it's conception was ending wars in Europe... what better way than getting the last power on the continent to join. As an EU citizen myself (not that I've spent more than a week in Hungary in my life), I would welcome Russia to the fold if it managed to become a legitimate democracy.

Who are we to decide if it's right for Russia or any country to head for our version of democracy and westernisation, it's far from a legitimate model. Our ideals have ****ed up many countries and led them to war, destruction, starvation and mass deaths.

So much so we are currently imploding in on ourselves over the latest war in Ukraine, not to mention Gaza. We are defending and funding sending young men to the front line of Ukraine to defend this so called legitamacy. We are funding for *Gazans to be blitzed. There is nothing in humanity that makes this legitimate.

I'd even say currently Trump and Musk are verging on being bigger dictators than Putin and Xi and the funny part of all this is you actually live in the land of the so called free....Free from protests at Uni and Colleges, as announced by Trump yesterday with threats.

When you are comparing the legitimacy of Russia, I'd first get your own Trumpet over there in order.

How does anyone think half of the **** we do and cause is legitimate. We are all just the puppets of the state regardless of who our leader is, there is nowt legitimate about the way a lot of citizens are treated wherever they live, especially when it comes to poverty and homelessness.

The American Carousel of Progress as funded by Disney...

It would be nice if the Russians had the option to chose for themselves with a free press to tell them how things really are. Personally, I do believe democracy has problems, but I'd chose it over a fascist dictator anyday.

I think it's perfectly fair to criticise Trump, Musk, Putin AND Xi. I still dont believe in two wrongs make a right. Yeah, Trump is a twat... that does't make Putin good. Thinking Trump is a fascist twat is not mutually exclusive with thinking Putin is one. I think they're both major twats and the world would be better without either one of them.

Stfu, you are even starting to sound like an American, utter ****s. <laugh>

Free press in America, yeah righto, so Trump don't select the media he wants his staff to be interviewed by....FREEDOM!

There is no free press around Trump, because if they dare they get shot down and booted out.

Strawman again.

I don't disagree with you on that, Trump is waging a war on the free-press, but that doesn't make what Russia does right.

I didn't say it did make Russia right, I've never said that, what I said is sort your own house out first. You got a massive problem on your own ****ing doorstep....but hey look over there.

And have I not criticised Trump and Musk over and over again?

tbf I think that is part of the point that Milk is making.

Trump's behaviour around the press is alarming, and he's been doing since 2016 with his 'fake news' cries

Noticed him doing it the other day with AP news, one of the biggest and most respected news agencies out there.

You said the West was legitimate, it's not, we've been responsible for thousands up on thousands of deaths over the decades. Trump going full tonto has brought it home to us how unprepared we are to defend ourselves, when that enevitable day comes that we finally get bit on the arse for our so called legitimacy.

It's been a wake up call for Europe, that's for sure.

As much as I dislike Trump's tactics, it's not a bad thing that Europe gets its **** in order, especially with regard to defence.

He's gone full tonto mate, so trying to look over there at Putin is not the top of concerns at the moment, because even the democrats are too scared to reign the lunatic in - and with them controlling the press now, it means he can feed his 300 million + people any bullshite he wants.

You've seen the state of Gaza, do you think that is legiitmate democracy by the West?

I absolutely agree with you that it's given us a big wake up call. As you say not such a bad thing.

anyway I'll stfu now. :bandit:

Can someone tell CK about the extra points I've earned, thanks. <whistle>

Polls are being influenced by Trumps antics in a lot of countries where we are seeing right wing parties losing steam.

In Canada the Canadian Tories have lost a 25 point lead

Last 3 polls have shown Labour leading in the UK again.

Trump leader of the free world <laugh>

What do the polls say about Arsenal winning the CL?

As you'll know mate, my views on Palestine highlight the utter hypocrisy of the west. On the one hand criticising Russia for invading and occupying foreign territory and arming Ukraine to fight back. And on the other, supporting an invading and occupying force in Israel and arming them to the teeth, whilst offering them diplomatic immunity and leaving Gazans to rot in hell.

That has everything to do with the wider geopolitics of each region. Russia = bad because the west want to protect Europe. Israel = good because they are fighting against Iranian backed militia and the west want a foothold in the middle east to shape it in their image.

Both are occupying forces in somebody else's territory. You either call it out for what it is, or you don't. The double standards are sickening really.

As for Trump mate, I agree, the bloke is a loon. He's just somebody who makes it up as he goes along and like Sucky, he doesn't do details. Like you say, his attempt at dismantling / delegitimising the free press, shutting down legitimate protest, and going after anybody who criticises him, bears all the hall marks of a dictator who wants to control the whole narrative.

And like you say, with Muskolini owning twitter, pulling the tech strings, and dismantling the parts of federal govt that keep him in check, it's a recipe for a nightmare.

I saw yesterday where Trump was banning protests at Uni and Colleges and threatening all sorts of punishments if anything happens - regardless my view point on the protests, people are entitled to free speech, so if you put something in place as Trump has done to stop them, then that makes him as much a dictator that he tried to label Zelenskyy with.

Anyway you know all that shhite, think I just took the bite because of a word called 'legitimate' - think I'm just questioning what legitimate is anymore, certainly when it comes to humanity.

Yeah mate I agree, 'legitimacy' is a very fluid term it seems depending on what the agenda is.

As for Trump calling Zelensky a dictator, not only is it ironic, it's also just another one of his man child tantrums. He said it off the back of Ukraine not having elections during a war, which is standard practice anyway.

Please no one tell Trump this, he'll declare one to get his 3rd term.
