Cosi, I fear this predomanently male trait of aggression has been evolved and perfected over many thousands of years, by mother nature, simply to strengthen the species, as you rightly say its the seniors of the male species who eventually realise the futility of abuse and confrontation.

The younger stags are simply following that which is in their genetic make-up.

I'm afraid it will be many more thousands of years of evolution before the human race becomes tolerant and forgiving of each others trangressions, if ever.

The Not606 General Threads are prime examples showing we as a race have not quite made it yet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Anyone got anything to add to whats been suggested, any thoughts on the suggestions? Going to start to wrap things up soon.

Whats been said

-more 'proactive' Moderation
-Same level of moderation
-delete more of the anti-"Driver A" comments that don't really have much substance
-Issues with drivers being dragged into threads for no reason
-Merge more threads
-Deal with the lack of respect between members
-More Moderation interaction when posts are deleted
-differences should not be personalised against members
-Inability of some members to not rise to comments they don't like (bait?)
-More mod action on slagging matches, warning then cool down bans?
 
I think the last 4 points are going to be the key areas, and are quite closely linked. At the end of the day, if people want to attack others personally, they will, unless there is a strong deterrent. I think we need some sort of system in place, which is both flexible enough to adapt to the situation, yet when mods feel they have to interfere and delete/change posts, then after an initial warning, some sort of temporary ban or other 'punishment' is meted out? And if we are going to have a system in place like that, then it needs to be transparent enough that people can easily find out why the action was taken, both to educate everyone else on what is deemed unacceptable, and so that the mods can be challenged (sorry) if people feel the punishment didn't fit the crime.

That way, everyone should get a good feeling for where the boundaries between good debate and getting personal are, and hopefully that'll save the the mods some work!

Here are two points I consider very important; and very much in the interests of the forum:

  • It is of vital importance that any self-respecting forum is always conscious of its public image to strangers. For this reason, after this thread has been closed and a proper action plan and policy established, we should not be discussing internal concerns publicly. I would like to suggest that in future, any discussion of this type be discussed in a dedicated thread which is not publicly accessible, and thus restricted to established members only. This will remove the 'dirty laundry' (which any forum has to some extent) from public view.

  • It might also be worth considering that disagreements between members should always be conducted out of public view (either in a dedicated thread or by the PM facility). For instance, a moderator could immediately transfer the relevant posts from any 'off-topic' argument into a dedicated thread, together with some notice in the original place, that posts have been transferred to a new location and that this should be the only place for the 'argument' to continue.

The moderators seem to be trigger happy when it comes to merging threads. Even when the threads are unrelated. Why bother?

What is their decision criteria for merging threads?

The average number of new articles per day is about 3 but you merge 2 of them. It seems so arbitrary. Are you going to just allow one article per day about F1 and then merge it with another article created three years ago?

By the way, I think the new member RoyalMansel92 is in fact (or should that be opinion) that very witty member who supported Kimi and had the phrase Iceman in his user name. Just my observation of course.
 
I merged all the kimi discussions together to clean up as there were a few. There doesnt need to be so many and as the news of his return was 'todays chip paper' I thought best to keep it as one and keep it as a rolling disscusion. I apologise if it was a bad decision

It wasn't a bad decision, we don't need 3 threads on the same thing. Whenever a team signs a new driver, someone always starts a new thread instead of putting it in the 2012 Driver Line Up thread. Just like with Grosjean today.

Seconded, there is no point having 13 threads on the same subject.

I agree.

Members should be encouraged to consider adding their point to an existing thread if it fits. This enriches an existing thread, rather than having lots of little threads of less 'substance' whilst at the same time encouraging the likelihood of duplicated posts.
